Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

Peer social support is psychological support provided by peers while selfefficacy is an individual's belief in their ability to solve a problem. Both of these are related to first-level students ability to adapt in lectures. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between peer social support and self-efficacy with academic adaptability in first-level nursing students at Brawijaya University. The research method uses correlational analytics with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used simple random sampling with sample of 116 students. The research instruments used berlin social support scales, general self-efficacy, and academic adaptability. Data were analysed using Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed that there is a correlation between peer social support and academic adaptability (p-value < 0.001; α = 0.05; r = 0.467) and there is a correlation between self-efficacy and academic adaptability (p-value < 0.001; α = 0.05; r = 0.549) which is significant and positive with moderate correlation level. Higher peer social support and self-efficacy will increase academic adaptability. First-year students are advised to increase positive and supportive interactions with peers and adaptive coping mechanism strategies to improve academic adaptability.
