Abstract
Konsep ekspresi identitas diri menjadi topik yang sering diperbincangkan dalam berbagai disiplin ilmu, termasuk ilmu komunikasi. Sebagai konstruk yang dinamis, identitas diri kerap mengalami perubahan yang unik pada setiap diri individu di lingkungan yang mempengaruhinya. Dengan melibatkan teori interaksionisme simbolik, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dinamika ekspresi identitas diri santriwati di PPM Nur Muhammad. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan analisis interaksionisme simbolik pada proses mind, self dan society, ditemukan bahwa, pemaknaan individu atas simbol-simbol yang berlaku dalam lingkungan sosial pesantren bermakna positif yang dibentuk dari hasil interaksi sosial di pesantren itu sendiri. Selain itu, dalam mengekspresikan identitas diri pada gaya pakaian, santriwati menyesuaikannya dengan lingkungan dimana mereka berada. Pada proses ini ditemukan bahwa pada santriwati terjadi adaptasi budaya dan adaptasi sosial, dimana adaptasi budaya terjadi bersama dengan konformitas yang menjadikan santriwati patuh akan aturan gaya berpakaian syar’i di pesantren. Disamping itu, konformitas ini juga memunculkan praktik negosiasi identitas sebagai bentuk adaptasi sosial gaya berpakaian oleh santriwati pada lingkungan sosial di luar pesantren. Kedua sikap adaptasi ini menunjukkan adanya perbedaan kepuasan ekspresi identitas diri pada santriwati di PPM Nur Muhammad, sehingga terjadi perbedaan praktik gaya berpakaian di antara lingkungan yang dimasuki santriwati.
English Abstract
The concept of self-identity expression is a topic that is often discussed in various scientific disciplines, including communication sciences. As a dynamic construct, self-identity often experiences changes that are unique to each individual in the environment that influences them. By involving the theory of symbolic interactionism, this research aims to determine the dynamics of female students' expression of self-identity at PPM Nur Muhammad. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Based on the analysis of symbolic interactionism on the processes of mind, self and society, it was found that individual meanings of the symbols that apply in the social environment of Islamic boarding schools have positive meanings which are formed from the results of social interactions in the Islamic boarding school itself. Apart from that, in expressing their identity in their clothing style, female students adapt it to the environment in which they find themselves. In this process, it was found that cultural adaptation and social adaptation occurred among the female students, where cultural adaptation occurred together with conformity which made the female students obey the rules of Islamic clothing style in the Islamic boarding school. Apart from that, this conformity also gives rise to the practice of identity negotiation as a form of social adaptation of clothing styles by female students in social environments outside the Islamic boarding school. These two adaptation attitudes show that there are differences in satisfaction with the expression of self-identity among female students at PPM Nur Muhammad, resulting in differences in clothing style practices between the environments the female students enter.
