Magister thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

Penurunan densitas lenih rendah pada teknik soft shell (natrium hyaluronat and HPMC).

English Abstract

OBJECTIVE There are few studies using hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose (HPMC) as dispersive ophthalmic viscosurgical device (OVD) in the soft shell technique. We compare cohesive-only OVD and softshell technique (natrium hyaluronate and HPMC) on density and coefficient of variation of corneal endothelial cells in phacoemulsification. METHODS Observational retrospective cohort study conducted in Malang, from March to September 2022 by using medical records. Density and coefficient of variation of corneal endothelial were recorded pre-operative, 1 day, and 1 month after surgery and then compared between 2 groups. Analysis was performed by MannWhitney. RESULTS A total of 68 patients’ medical records were collected. There was a significant difference in endothelial density 1 day(p 0.021) and 1 month after surgery(p 0.016), and the decrease in endothelial density was lower in the softshell technique. There was no significant increase in the coefficient of variation between the 2 groups on pre-operative, 1 day, and 1 month after surgery. CONCLUSIONS The use of OVD technique affects corneal endothelial density after phacoemulsification. Decreasing endothelial density was lower in the softshell technique (natrium hyaluronate and HPMC).
