Abstract
Karakteristik berdasarkan ukuran didominasi Small Microplastic Particles (SMP) (93%); bentuk didominasi fragment (39%); warnanya didominasi trransparan (54%); dan Jenis polimer didominasi Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).
English Abstract
Microplastics are small plastic particles (1 μm-5 mm) that pose a serious threat to the environment when not managed appropriately and can cause water pollution through sewage systems. The accumulation of microplastics in the ocean, triggered by human activities on land such as urban and industrial waste, is an increasing global problem. However, research on the impact of industrial activities on microplastic pollution in the discharge system is still limited. Industrial estates such as Surabaya Industrial Estate Rungkut (SIER), which covers an area of 245 ha and houses more than 200 companies, raise concerns about the potential for microplastic pollution through their sewers due to diverse industrial activities and the use of open surface drainage channels. This study was conducted to determine the abundance and characteristics of microplastics in the Southern SIER Industrial Estate. Sampling was conducted at 12 points along the channel with the grab sampling method. The sample analysis process includes filtering, WPO (Wet Peroxide Oxidation), density separation, and microplastic identification. Microplastics were analyzed based on abundance and characteristics (size, shape, color, and polymer type). Ward method cluster analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between abundance and characteristics with the type of industry present. The results showed that the abundance of microplastics at the study site ranged from 64.33 to 237.67 particles/L. Characteristics based on size are dominated by Small Microplastic Particles (SMP) (93%); shape is dominated by fragments (39%); color is dominated by transparent (54%); and polymer type is dominated by Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The results of cluster analysis show that there is a relationship between the characteristics of microplastics and the type of industry available. The food, textile, pharmaceutical, and plastic industries are indicated to be contributors to microplastics at the study site. It is difficult to determine the relationship between abundance and industry type, because the abundance of microplastics does not describe a certain trend (random).
