Abstract
Penelitian ini meneliti tentang bagaimana Qatar memperoleh reputasi melalui penyelenggaraan Piala Dunia FIFA 2022. Kebijakan domestik dan luar negeri (domestic and foreign policy) Qatar sejak tahun 1990-an telah berkembang, salah satunya adalah dengan melakukan kampanye “soft power” dalam bentuk investasi di sektor olahraga. Melalui olahraga, Qatar berusaha meningkatkan national branding, global image, hingga prestise secara global. Piala Dunia FIFA 2022 menjadi salah satu alat diplomasi olahraga yang dilakukan Qatar. Sebagai bentuk diplomasi olahraga, apa yang dilakukan Qatar diteliti menggunakan strategi diplomasi olahraga menurut Kambiz Abdi dkk dalam artikel berjudul "Converting sports diplomacy to diplomatic outcomes: Introducing a sports diplomacy model", yang membahas bagaimana diplomasi olahraga dapat mengubah kekuatan soft power olahraga menjadi sumber hasil diplomasi. Dalam menjelaskan hal itu, Kambiz Abdi dkk mengembangkan berbagai strategi: Official and Sports Diplomacy Solidarity; Utilizing the Competent Cultural Ambassadors; High�Performance Strategy; dan Vast Media Coverage. Hasil (outcome) yang didapatkan Qatar kemudian dibahas dalam penelitian ini.
English Abstract
This research examines how Qatar gained reputation through hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022. Qatar's domestic and foreign policies since the 1990s have developed, one of which is by carrying out a "soft power" campaign in the form of investment in the sports sector. Through sports, Qatar is trying to improve national branding, global image and global prestige. The 2022 FIFA World Cup is one of Qatar's sports diplomacy tools. As a form of sports diplomacy, what Qatar is doing is researched using sports diplomacy strategies according to Kambiz Abdi et al in the article entitled "Converting sports diplomacy to diplomatic outcomes: Introducing a sports diplomacy model", which discusses how sports diplomacy can turn the soft power of sports into a source of diplomacy results. In explaining this, Kambiz Abdi et al developed various strategies: Official and Sports Diplomacy Solidarity; Utilizing the Competent Cultural Ambassadors; High-Performance Strategy; and Vast Media Coverage. The outcomes gained by Qatar are then discussed in this research.
