Abstract

Film adalah salah satu produk komunikasi massa yang dapat merepresentasikan identitas manusia. Film dalam disiplin ilmu komunikasi merupakan bagian yang teramat penting bagi individu ataupun kelompok guna mengirim dan menerima pesan. Pada kenyataannya, industri perfilman Indonesia telah lama didominasi oleh pembuat film laki-laki, yang cenderung mengobjektifikasi perempuan. Namun, belakangan ini industri perfilman mengalami perkembangan tren yang memposisikan perempuan sebagai pembuat film. Alhasil, produk dari film tersebut dapat dipahami dengan perspektif yang bernama female gaze. Film Marlina Si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak (2017) merupakan salah satu produk tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana representasi female gaze pada film Marlina Si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak menggunakan analisis signifikasi dua tahap Semiotika Roland Barthes. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif-kualitatif dengan paradigma konstruktivisme. Peneliti mengamati bagaimana melalui adegan-adegan pada film Marlina Si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak, para pembuat film menghadirkan female gaze narasi, keputusan artistik, dan dialog. Pembuat film mengadvokasikan isu-isu yang dihadapi perempuan di kehidupan nyata melalui film ini, dengan cara yang belum pernah dijelajah oleh pembuat film kontemporer Indonesia sebelumnya, dengan merepresentasikan dominasi perempuan terhadap laki-laki dengan kekerasan, guna melindungi hak-hak perempuan tersebut.

English Abstract

Film is one of the mass communication products that can represent human identity. In the discipline of communication science, films play an immensely important role for individuals and groups to convey and receive messages. In reality, the Indonesian film industry has long been dominated by male filmmakers, who tend to objectify women. However, recently, the film industry has witnessed a trend that positions women as filmmakers. Consequently, products from these films can be understood from the perspective known as the female gaze. "Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts" (2017) is one such product. This research aims to describe how the representation of female gaze in the film "Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts" is depicted using Roland Barthes' two�stage semiotic analysis of signification. This research employs a descriptive-qualitative approach with a constructivism paradigm. The researcher observes how, through scenes in the film "Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts," filmmakers present the female gaze in narrative, artistic decisions, and dialogue. The filmmakers advocate issues faced by women in real life through this film, in a way that has not been explored by previous contemporary Indonesian filmmakers, by representing the dominance of women over men through violence, to protect the rights of these women.
