Abstract
Meskipun terdapat beragam perspektif mengenai prinsip-prinsip dasar feminisme, namun para feminis mempunyai pendapat yang sama mengenai pandangan dunia patriarki sebagai pandangan dunia yang menjaga laki-laki dan perempuan dalam peran gender tradisional dan menjunjung tinggi supremasi laki- laki. Barbie the Movie (2023) sebagai media populer mencerminkan anti- feminisme Mattel dengan menggambarkan stereotip perempuan dalam masyarakat patriarki. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap gagasan anti-feminisme Mattel dalam Barbie the Movie (2023). Dengan menggunakan pendekatan feminis dalam menganalisis data, di bagian diskusi akan ditunjukkan bahwa perspektif Mattel tidak sejalan dengan feminis, lebih jauh lagi, ini kontras dengan sudut pandang feminis, yang menunjukkan bahwa mereka tidak mendukung gagasan feminis. Data yang diambil dari dialog, lagu, shot, dan kajian film merupakan unsur sinematik yang digunakan untuk menafsirkan adegan tersebut. Temuan penelitian menemukan bahwa stereotip perempuan dalam Barbie the Movie (2023) selaras dengan sudut pandang patriarki, perempuan ditampilkan secara pasif, hanya dilihat sebagai objek seksual, dan tidak mempunyai status dan posisi yang sama dengan laki-laki di tempat kerja dalam film Barbie the Movie (2023). Lebih lanjut, para perempuan juga menginternalisasikan paham patriarki ke dalam diri mereka yang menunjukkan bahwa perspektif anti-feminis Mattel dalam Barbie the Movie (2023) sangat kuat. Peneliti selanjutnya yang tertarik menganalisis Barbie mungkin akan melihat cara Mattel memproduksi berbagai produk Barbie dengan menerapkan pendekatan feminisme komoditas atau menggunakan konsep kapitalisme Marx karya Karl, untuk membahas komersialisasi gagasan feminis dalam produk Barbie atau film-film Barbie.
English Abstract
Despite the fact there are various perspectives regarding the fundamental principles of feminism, feminists share the same opinion regarding the patriarchal worldview as a worldview that keeps men and women in traditional gender roles and upholds male supremacy. Barbie the Movie (2023) as the popular media reflect Mattel’s anti-feminism by illustrating the stereotype of women in patriarchal society. This study aims to expose the notion of Mattel’s anti-feminism in Barbie the Movie (2023). Using the feminist approach in analyse the data, the discussion will show the way Mattel’s perspective did not align with the feminist, further it is contrast with the feminist viewpoint, it shows they did not support feminist notion. The data are taken from dialogue, song, shot, and the film study is the cinematic element used to interpret the scene. The finding of the study discovers that women’s stereotype of women in Barbie the Movie (2023) is aligned with the patriarchal point of view, they are shown as passive, seen only as a sexual object, and did not have the same status and position with men in a workplace. Furthermore, the women also internalize the patriarchal notion into themselves show that Mattel’s anti-feminist perspective in Barbie the Movie (2023) is very strong. Future researcher interested in analyse Barbie may look at the way Mattel produce various Barbie products by applying commodity feminism approaches or else use Karl’s Marx capitalism concept, to discuss the commercialization of feminist ideas in Barbie product or Barbie movies.
