Abstract

English Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a major occupational health problem and nurses are considered to be at risk of experiencing the injuries. If a nurse is affected by musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), the main impact is a decrease in the performance, activity, and quality of the nurse's work, thereby creating a risk of accidents and work-related illnesses. One of the factors that influence the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) is the psychosocial work environment. The psychosocial work environment is a holistic concept that can be understood as an individual's interaction with the various organizational, psychological, and social components of daily work life. This study aims to determine the relationship between the psychosocial work environment and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in nurses in hospital inpatient rooms. This research uses a descriptive correlation method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique uses cluster random sampling. The research sample was 108 nurses in the inpatient room at Panti Waluya Sawahan Hospital, Malang. Data were collected using the General Nordic Questionnaire For Psychological and Social Factors At Work (QPS Nordic) questionnaire to measure the psychosocial work environment of nurses in inpatient rooms and the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire to measure musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in nurses in inpatient rooms. The results of the Spearman rank statistical test showed that there was a relationship between the psychosocial work environment and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) with a p-value of 0.000 (p-value < 0.05) and a moderate correlation coefficient of 0.572. Therefore, the nursing profession can support each other to create a good psychosocial work environment. In addition, hospital management must provide motivation to nurses so they can always work well.
