Magister thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the best dose and the effect of combining garlic flour (Allium sativum) in feed on production performance, Newcastle disease antibody titers, and blood profiles in Newcastle disease virus-infected broiler chickens. This study consists of two stage. First stage of this study is to identify antiviral activities of garlic powder (Allium sativum) to chicken embryonic egg. The second stage of this study is to identify th effect of garlic powder to chicken performance, antibody titres, and blood profile. This study employed experime nta l techniques such as the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) Anova and Tukey test. The use of garlic flour had a significant (P<0.05) effect on broiler chicken production performance, Newcastle disease antibody titers, and blood profiles in broiler chicken organs. This was assumed to be because of garlic flour has immunomodulatory effects and helps keep broiler chickens’ immune systems healthy. The result of first stage of this study showed th addition of garlic powder on chicken embryonic egg could repair the condition of spleen histoopatology of chicken embryo. According to the findings of this study, giving 1% garlic flour to chicken can improve their immunological status, as evidenced by an increase in protective antibody titers, a decrease in the number of leukocytes, and a decrease in the number of lymphocytes after infection with Newscatle disease.
