Abstract
Film adalah bentuk hiburan yang populer dan modern. Film merupakan salah satu jenis media massa yang sering digunakan untuk menggambarkan isu-isu sosial di dunia nyata, termasuk penggambaran hegemoni dalam film. Pada tahun 2019, film Captive State diproduksi. Film ini menyajikan bentuk hegemoni yang digambarkan oleh 'The Legislator' yang memiliki kendali di negara bagian Chicago dan juga tindakan mempertahankan hegemoni yang dilakukan oleh aparat. Ada juga bentuk counter-hegemoni yang digambarkan oleh kelompok perlawanan yaitu 'Phoenix'. Penelitian ini menganalisis apa saja bentuk-bentuk hegemoni, bentuk-bentuk kontra-hegemoni, dan tindakan dalam mempertahankan hegemoni dengan menggunakan teori utama hegemoni yang didasarkan pada pemikiran politik Antonio Gramsci dan juga studi film oleh Dennis W. Petrie & Joe Boggs. Penelitian ini menemukan beberapa aspek yang menunjukkan hubungan antara aturan ketat 'The Legislator' dengan gerakan perlawanan yang dilakukan oleh kelompok 'Phoenix'. Kelompok 'Phoenix' yang dipimpin oleh 'The Number One' melakukan gerakan perlawanan terhadap status quo 'The Legislator'. Hal ini terjadi karena kelompok penguasa tidak dapat mengamankan ideologi hegemoni pada kelas subaltern lagi. Dalam film ini juga terlihat upaya-upaya yang dilakukan oleh aparat dalam mempertahankan hegemoni 'Sang Legislator'. Penggambaran hegemoni sebagai sebuah ideologi yang mengontrol aturan hidup dan perilaku masyarakat Chicago dan pada saat yang sama juga terdapat sebuah gerakan yang melawan kontrol tersebut, menunjukkan bahwa film Captive State merupakan sebuah film yang kompleks. Meskipun kelas penguasa direpresentasikan sebagai alien yang menginvasi sebuah negara, namun isu-isu utama dibahas dengan cara yang rumit.
English Abstract
Movies are a popular and modern form of entertainment. Movies are mass media often used to depict social issues in the real world, including the depiction of hegemony in a movie. In 2019, the movie Captive State was produced. This movie presents the form of hegemony that is depicted by ‘The Legislator’, who controls the state of Chicago, and the act of maintaining hegemony by the apparatuses. There is also the form of counter-hegemony depicted by the resistance group, namely ‘Phoenix’. This research analyses what are the forms of hegemony and the forms of counter-hegemony by using the central theory of hegemony based on the political thoughts of Antonio Gramsci and also movie studies by Dennis W. Petrie & Joe Boggs. This study finds some aspects that show the connection between the strict rules of ‘The Legislator’ and the resistance movements by the ‘Phoenix’ group. The Phoenix group that The Number One leads is leading the resistance movement against the status quo of The Legislator. It occurs because the ruling group can no longer secure the ideology of hegemony in the subaltern class. In the movie, there are also the apparatuses' attempts to maintain the hegemony of ‘The Legislator’. The portrayal of hegemony as an ideology that controls the rules of living and behaviours of the people of Chicago, and at the same time, there is also a movement against the controls, somehow tells that the movie Captive State is so complex. Even though the ruling class is represented as aliens who invaded a state, the main issues are addressed in a complicated way.
