Abstract
English Abstract
Wastewater from the porang processing industry is included in the category of wastewater from vegetable and fruit processing. Apart from containing organic pollutants, Wastewater from the porang processing industry also contains quite high amounts of calcium oxalate. The organic compounds and calcium oxalate contained in porang wastewater can cause environmental pollution if not processed properly. Therefore, this research was carried out to design a prototype wastewater processor for the porang processing industry and test the performance level of the wastewater processing prototype in reducing calcium oxalate, TSS, BOD, and COD in wastewater from the porang processing industry. The research was carried out in several stages including literature study, prototype design, prototype creation, prototype evaluation, and testing. Processing wastewater from the porang processing industry uses three types of methods such as filtration, electrocoagulation, and ozonation. Filtration process uses filter nets with 3 size levels. The electrocoagulation process utilizes an anode and cathode made of stainless steel. Before entering the ozonation process, the flocs formed in the electrocoagulation process will be filtered using a cloth filter. The next process is the ozonation process using ozone (O3). The prototype is also equipped with pH, TDS, and turbidity sensors connected to remote control system. Based on the test results, it was found that this prototype was proven to be able to reduce calcium oxalate up to 19%, reduce TSS up to 94%, increase pH up to 19%, reduce BOD up to 53.35%, and reduce COD up to 64.52%.
