Abstract

English Abstract

Kailan plant is a top Asian vegetable commodity and is widely consumed by the middle and upper class because it is rich in vitamin A and contains lutein and zeaxanthin which are good for health. However, the production of kailan in Indonesia has decreased in recent years so that it has not been able to meet the needs of the local market. The constraints that affect the low productivity of kailan are abiotic and biotic stresses that cause a decrease in soil quality due to leaching of nutrients in the soil and the production of kailan plants that are highly dependent on the use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides which can have negative impacts such as a decrease in quality and quantity of production. The solution that has been done is to use inorganic fertilizers and PGPR. However, the inorganic fertilizer solution can trigger resistance and also the consistency of PGPR also sometimes changes when in the field. There is a biological technology that is still being developed, namely the use of antagonistic agents in the form of endophytic bacteria. Platycerium wandae is an ornamental plant that lives attached to the host plant and can obtain its own nutrients without taking from the host plant. This study aims to obtain results regarding the effect of PGPB application from Platycerium wandae isolates in increasing growth and suppressing disease incidence in kailan plants. This research was conducted from September to December 2023. The research field of the effect of PGPB from Platycerium wandae on plant growth and health in kailan plants was carried out at Lily Harvest Farm, Tulungrejo Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, East Java and Plant Disease Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya. The stages of the study include the rejuvenation of Platycerium wandae endophytic bacterial isolates, preparation of planting media, seedlings, and land preparation, application of PGPB from 7 Platycerium wandae isolates, care of kailan plants, and observation of growth parameters (plant height, number of leaves, plant wet weight, plant root wet weight, root length, plant dry weight, root dry weight) and plant health based on the suppression of disease incidence in the field. Data were analyzed statistically using anova and further tests using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) with a significance of 5% using Ms Excel 2019 and SPSS ver 25 software. The results showed that the application of PGPB from Platycerium wandae had a significant effect on plant growth parameters, namely in the P2 (Pw 1c), P4 (Pw 2c), P6 (Pw 4b), P7 (Pw 4c), and P8 (Pw 4d) treatments and plant health parameters, namely in the P3 (Pw 1d), P4 (Pw 2c), P5 (Pw 4a), P6 (Pw 4b), and P8 (Pw 4d) treatments.
