Wicaksono, Guntur and Dr. Dini Kurnia Irmawati, S.Pd., M.Pd. (2024) CREATING INDONESIAN SUBTITLE FOR “HOW DISCORD WORKS IN 148.000 MILLISECONDS OR LESS” VIDEO USING AEGISUB. Diploma thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

This comprehensive final project delves into the nuanced process of creating Indonesian subtitles for the video "How Discord Works in 148,000 Milliseconds or Less" using the Aegisub subtitling tool. Two fundamental inquiries guide the exploration: firstly, an examination of the strategies employed in subtitling, encompassing linguistic, cultural, and technical considerations to ensure a seamless translation for the Indonesian audience; and secondly, an exploration of the challenges faced during the subtitling process, ranging from linguistic complexities to maintaining synchronization between audio and text. In dissecting subtitling strategies, the project unravels the intricate decisions made to accurately convey technical terms and align the content with cultural nuances. Simultaneously, it showcases the multifaceted challenges encountered, providing valuable insights into adapting technical content for a different cultural and linguistic context. The overarching objectives are to comprehensively explain subtitling strategies, offering insights into the thoughtful choices made, and to showcase and address challenges, contributing not only to Discord tutorials but also to the broader field of audiovisual translation and subtitling studies with practical solutions and innovative insights.
