Abstract

Film merupakan bentuk media yang menggambarkan kehidupan manusia, seringkali berdasarkan kisah nyata. Peneliti memilih "A Man Called Otto" karya Marc Foster karena film tersebut membahas konflik-konflik kelas dan kekuasaan. Sutradara, Marc Foster, menghadirkan realitas sehari-hari dari konflik-konflik kelas melalui masalah sosial. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap struktur kelas sosial yang digambarkan oleh para karakter dan dampaknya terhadap Otto dan tetangganya. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan adanya kelas sosial dan konflik. Ada dua kelas sosial yang memiliki kekuatan yang berbeda yang digambarkan dalam film ini: kelas atas Dye n' Merika dan kelas bawah Otto beserta tetangganya. Ini membuktikan teori Karl Marx tentang kelas sosial. Dalam film ini, kesenjangan kekuasaan sosial antara dua individu menjadi paling jelas pada saatsaat kedekatan yang terbesar. Ketika perusahaan properti Dye n' Merika mencoba memaksa untuk membeli semua rumah di area tempat tinggal Otto. Hal ini juga membuktikan perspektif Marxis tentang konflik kelas ketika struktur masyarakat terintegrasi dengan cara di mana uang memimpin kekuatan. Ternyata, konflik kelas dalam kehidupan sosial benar adanya dan sering terjadi dalam kehidupan nyata. Ini dibuktikan oleh kemampuan Dye n' Merika sebagai perusahaan dengan kelas sosial yang lebih tinggi untuk memengaruhi keputusan anak salah satu tetangga Otto untuk menjual rumah orangtuanya tanpa sepengetahuan mereka dan menggunakan kekuatan ekonomi mereka untuk memalsukan semua data yang diperlukan. Sebagai imbalannya, hak untuk membayar rumah akan dialihkan kepada anak sebagai hak warisan. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa kekuatan ekonomi dari kelas sosial yang lebih tinggi dapat menentukan hal-hal yang mereka ingin dapatkan menggunakan media uang.

English Abstract

A movie is a form of media that portrays human life, often based on a real story. The researcher chooses “A Man Called Otto” by Marc Foster because the researcher finds that though, about class conflicts and power. The director, Marc Foster, presents the everyday realities of class conflicts through social problems. That is why this research is conducted on the social class structure, which is portrayed by the characters and that happens and impacts Otto and his neighbors. The aim of this research is to prove the existence of social classes and conflicts. There are two social classes and have different powers portrayed in the movie: the upper class Dye n’ Merika and the lower class Otto and his neighbors. It proved the theory of Karl Marx about social class. In the film, the social power gap between two individuals becomes most explicit in the moments of greatest intimacy. When property company Dye n’ Merika try to forcing buy all the house in the Otto residential area. It also proven of Marxism perspective about class conflict when society structure to integrate in a manner like money leads power. It turns out that class conflicts in social life are true and happen a lot in real life. This is proven by Dye n' Merika's ability as a company with a higher social class to influence the decision of the child of one of Otto's neighbors to sell his parents' house without their knowledge and use their economical power to falsify all the necessary data. In exchange, the right to pay for the house will be transferred to the child as an inheritance right. This proves that the economical power of a higher social class can determine the things they want to get using the medium of money.
