Abstract

Industri laundry berkembang pesat sehingga berpotensi menghasilkan limbah cair dalam jumlah besar yang mengakibatkan tingginya nilai COD limbah yang dihasilkan. Kandungan COD dalam limbah laundry dapat mencapai angka di atas 200 mg/L, dimana nilai tersebut di luar baku mutu yang telah diatur dalam peraturan yaitu sebesar 100 mg/L sehingga perlu dilakukan penanganan terhadap limbah yang dihasilkan sebelum dibuang ke lingkungan. Salah satu metode penurunan COD yang baik ialah metode adsorpsi. Penurunan COD limbah laundry penelitian ini dilakukan melalui metode adsorpsi menggunakan adsorben karbon aktif ampas kopi. Penelitian ini memvariasikan massa adsorben karbon aktif ampas kopi (0,2; 0,5; 1; 2; dan 5 gram) dan waktu kontak adsorpsi (10, 30, 60, 90, dan 120 menit) yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui kapasitas adsorpsi COD limbah laundry. Limbah ampas kopi dikeringkan pada oven dengan suhu 105°C hingga diperoleh massa konstan, setelah mendapat massa konstan ampas kopi kering dikarbonisasi pada suhu 600°C selama 2 jam menggunakan aliran gas N2 di dalam reaktor karbonisasi. Karbon ampas kopi yang dihasilkan diaktivasi secara kimia menggunakan larutan asam berupa HCl 0,1M dengan cara direndam selama 48 jam pada suhu ruang untuk mengurangi atau menghilangkan pengotor yang menutupi pori karbon. Karbon aktif hasil aktivasi digunakan untuk proses adsorpsi limbah laundry yang dilakukan secara batch di atas shaker dengan kecepatan pengadukan 200 rpm dalam variasi waktu 10, 30, 60, 90, dan 120 menit. Karbon aktif ampas kopi dikarakterisasi pengujian kadar air, kadar bahan yang hilang, kadar abu, kadar karbon terikat, FTIR, XRF, dan BET.

English Abstract

The laundry industry is growing rapidly so that it has the potential to produce large amounts of liquid waste which results in a high COD value of the waste produced. The COD content in laundry waste can reach more than 200 mg/L, where this value is outside the quality standard set out in regulations, namely 100 mg/L, so it is necessary to handle the waste produced before it is discharged into the environment. One good COD reduction method is the adsorption method. The reduction of COD in laundry waste in this study was carried out through the adsorption method using coffee grounds activated carbon adsorbents. This research varied the adsorbent mass of coffee grounds activated carbon (0.2; 0.5; 1; 2; and 5 grams) and adsorption contact time (10, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes) which aims to determine the adsorption capacity of COD waste laundry. The coffee grounds were dried in an oven at 105°C until a constant mass was obtained, after obtaining a constant mass of dry coffee grounds it was carbonized at 600°C for 2 hours using a stream of N2 gas in a carbonization reactor. The resulting coffee grounds carbon was activated chemically using an acid solution in the form of 0.1M HCl by soaking for 48 hours at room temperature to reduce or remove impurities covering the carbon pores. Activated activated carbon is used for the adsorption process of laundry waste which is carried out in batches on a shaker with a stirring speed of 200 rpm in variations of 10, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Coffee grounds activated carbon was characterized by testing for water content, missing material content, ash content, carbon binder content, FTIR, XRF, and BET.
