Abstract
Kemampuan speaking dianggap oleh pelajar EFL sebagai kunci keberhasilan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, begitu juga dengan pelajar EFL di Indonesia, namun dalam proses pengembangan kemampuan speaking, pelajar EFL Indonesia mengalami beberapa kendala, terutama kecemasan berbicara. Beberapa peneliti juga mengungkapkan bahwa kecemasan berbicara juga dialami oleh pelajar EFL Indonesia selama pembelajaran online darurat selama pandemi COVID-19 dan berhipotesis bahwa kecemasan tersebut akan berlanjut selama pembelajaran offline di kelas offline pasca pandemi. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti akan menyelidiki persepsi siswa tentang kecemasan berbicara selama era pasca pandemi dan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkannya dengan menggunakan desain sekuensial eksplanatori. Data kuantitatif dari penelitian ini diperoleh dari kuesioner FLCAS yang diadopsi dari Horwitz; lingkup kecemasan komunikasi dan ketakutan akan evaluasi negatif, sedangkan data kualitatif diperoleh dari wawancara dengan skema yang sama dengan kuesioner dengan enam orang yang diwawancarai. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP 01 Batu dengan melibatkan 115 siswa dari kelas delapan yang baru saja mengikuti kelas daring di era pascapandemi sebagai responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua siswa mengalami kecemasan berbicara. Kecemasan ini sebagian besar berasal dari rasa takut akan penilaian negatif dan diikuti oleh kecemasan komunikasi. Kecemasan berbicara yang dialami siswa tidak berhubungan dengan kecemasan berbicara yang mereka alami saat pembelajaran online, hal ini disebabkan oleh adaptasi mereka terhadap kelas pembelajaran offline.
English Abstract
Speaking is considered by EFL learners as a key to success in learning English as also EFL learners in Indonesia, however, during the process of developing speaking skills, Indonesian EFL learners encountered some problems, especially speaking anxiety. Some researchers also revealed that speaking anxiety was also experienced by Indonesian EFL learners during emergency online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and hypothesize that it would persevere during offline learning in the post-pandemic offline class. In this research, the researcher is going to investigate students' perception of speaking anxiety during the post-pandemic era and the factors that cause it using an explanatory sequential design. The quantitative data of the research was gained from an adopted FLCAS by Horwitz questionnaire; scope of communication apprehension and fear of negative evaluation, while the qualitative one was acquired from an interview with a similar scheme as the questionnaire with six interviewees. This study was conducted in SMP 01 Batu by involving 115 students from the eighth grade who recently joined the offline class in the post-pandemic era as the respondents. The research results revealed that all of the students experienced speaking anxiety. This anxiety mostly comes from fear of negative evaluation and is followed by communication apprehension. The speaking anxiety experienced by students is not related to their speaking anxiety experienced during online learning, it is caused by their adaptation to the offline learning class.
