Abstract

Beberapa orang dalam masyarakat cenderung melanggar norma-norma yang ada di masyarakat dan perbuatan melanggar norma tersebut disebut dengan penyimpangan. Fenomena sosial ini menimbulkan prasangka buruk dari masyarakat yang ditujukan kepada pelaku karena tidak mematuhi aturan yang telah ditetapkan. Serial berjudul Game of Thrones merupakan serial yang banyak menampilkan adegan-adegan inses yang dianggap sebagai perilaku menyimpang, bahkan sampai ke tokoh utamanya. Namun, di Game of Thrones, di antara prasangka buruk dan reaksi masyarakat terhadap inses, serial ini secara implisit menggambarkan fungsi perilaku inses kepada masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini berfokus untuk menemukan fungsi perilaku incest kepada masyarakat dalam Game of Thrones. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan teori fungsionalis. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori fungsionalis oleh Émile Durkheim untuk menyelidiki fungsi inses yang termasuk perilaku menyimpang. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari serial Game of Thrones dengan hanya fokus pada adegan-adegan yang berisi tentang perilaku incest. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa melalui jalan penebusan dosa yang dilakukan Cercei diketahui bahwa perilaku inses memperjelas dan menegakkan batas-batas moral masyarakat. Melalui kontroversi Tyrion dan Varys terkait hubungan Jon dan Daenerys, diketahui juga bahwa inses mengklarifikasi batasanbatasan masyarakat. Terakhir, pernyataan Sam yang berhubungan dengan Craster, menekankan perilaku masyarakat perlu dibatasi dan diselaraskan dengan normanorma masyarakat agar masyarakat tidak berbuat diluar moral. Kemudian, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa dalam Game of Thrones, fungsi perilaku incest ditemukan melalui reaksi atau perilaku orang terhadap incest yaitu; perilaku inses memperjelas batas-batas moral, menegakkan batas-batas moral, dan mempromosikan kesatuan sosial.

English Abstract

Some people in society tend to violate the norms that exist in society and the act of violating norms is called deviance. This social phenomenon raises society’s prejudice which is aimed at the perpetrators because they do not adhere to the established rules. A series entitled Game of Thrones is a series which depicted many scenes of incestuous behaviors which considered as deviant behavior, even to the main characters. Yet, in Game of Thrones, among the preconceptions and reactions that society has toward incestuous, the series implicitly describes the function that incestuous behavior serves to society. Therefore, this research focuses on finding the functions of incestuous behavior toward society in Game of Thrones. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and functionalist theory. The theory used in this research is functionalist theory by Émile Durkheim to investigate the functions of incestuous under deviant behaviors. The data in this study are obtained from Game of Thrones series by focusing on scenes that contain about incestuous behavior. The results of this study show that through Cercei’s walk of atonement, it is known that incestuous behavior clarifies and enforces moral boundaries to the society. Through the controversy of Tyrion and Varys related to Jon and Daenerys’s relationship, it is also known that incest clarifying the society’s boundaries. The last is Sam’s statement related to Craster, emphasizes the need of people's behavior being limited and aligned with societal norms in order to prevent people from being immoral. Then, this research concludes that in Game of Thrones, the functions of incestuous behavior are discovered trough people's reactions or behaviors against incest which are; it clarifies moral boundaries, enforces moral boundaries, and promotes social unity.
