Doktor thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Background: Lung cancer and its therapy can significantly affect a patient's quality of life, well-being, and daily social functions. Anemia is a condition that often occurs in lung cancer patients and could affect the quality of their life. This study aims to analyze the relationship between baseline haemoglobin levels and quality of life of lung cancer patients undergoing platinum-based chemotherapy. Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted on 30 NSCLC patients who received platinum-based chemotherapy in January 2023 – February 2023 at Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang. Baseline Hb level data were obtained through medical records while the patient's quality of life assessment was conducted through interviews using the EORTC QLQ-LC13 questionnaire. Data was analyzed using correlation tests. Concluded as significant if p value <0.05. Results: the value of the correlation coefficient was 0.559 with p value = 0.001 (p<0.05) for the correlation between Hb baseline and the indicator of pain relief after medication and the correlation coefficient of -0.386 with p value = 0.035 (p<0.05) between Hb baseline and difficulty swallowing. The results of the correlation test between baseline Hb and quality of life obtained a correlation coefficient value of -0.096 with a p value of 0.615 (p>0.05). Conclusions: Based on the quality of life indicators in this questionnaire, there is a significant correlation between decreased baseline Hb levels and decreased pain relief after medication and increased dysphagia, but the cause is unknown and there is no significant correlation between baseline Hb levels and total quality of life scores.
