Abstract
Skripsi ini membahas strategi Rainforest Action Network (RAN) dalam mempertahankan Kawasan Ekosistem Leuser. Melalui berbagai strategi RAN sebagai sebagai Non Governmental Organization (NGO) menjadi salah satu actor penting yang mendorong perusahaan, merk-merk global, dan bank yang terlibat rantai pasok sawit bermasalah di Kawasan Ekosistem Leuser untuk menghentikan perusakan yang terus terjadi, melindungi HAM, dan mendorong diterapkannya komitmen kebijakan lingkungan berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsep strategi NGO lingkungan oleh John McCormic dengan studi litelatur melalu buku, artikel, jurnal, laporan, website dan berbagai sumber lainnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwasanya dari 9 strategi RAN, ada 1 staretegi yang tidak dilakukan dalam memepertahanakan kawasan Ekositem Leuser yakni Acquiring and Managing Property. Kemudian pendekatan utama yang diambil oleh Rainforest Action Network (RAN) di Kawasan Ekosistem Leuser sebagian besar berfokus pada dua strategi, yaitu promoting media coverage of environmental issues serta campaigning and organizing public protests.
English Abstract
This thesis discusses the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) strategy in defending the Leuser Ecosystem Area. Through various strategies, RAN as a NonGovernmental Organization (NGO) has become one of the important actors that encourages companies, global brands and banks involved in the problematic palm oil supply chain in the Leuser Ecosystem to stop the ongoing destruction, protect human rights and encourage implementation of sustainable environmental policy commitments. This research uses the concept of environmental NGO strategy by John McCormic with literature studies through books, articles, journals, reports, websites and various other sources. The research results show that of the 9 RAN strategies, there is 1 strategy that is not implemented in maintaining the Leuser Ecosystem area, namely Acquiring and Managing Property. Then the main approach taken by the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) in the Leuser Ecosystem area mostly focuses on two strategies, namely promoting media coverage of environmental issues and campaigning and organizing public protests.
