Abstract

English Abstract

Rivers are bodies of water that flow from high areas to low areas, their watercourses stretching across the land and consisting of three parts: the headwaters, middle course, and lower course. Rivers are highly beneficial for the aquatic organisms that inhabit them. Human activities contribute to the pollution of organic materials, including the disposal of waste into rivers. Pollution of organic materials occurring in rivers can affect parameters such as temperature, pH, DO (Dissolved Oxygen), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), and BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand). Based on the issues described above, I am conducting a research project on Organic Material Pollution in the Bektiharjo River, Tuban Regency. The objective of this research is to assess the level of organic material pollution in the Bektiharjo River using the Pollution Index (IP) Method and the Biological Monitoring Working Party – Average Score Per Taxon (BMWP-ASPT) Method. This study was conducted from March to April 2023 at the Environmental Laboratory of the Tuban City Environmental Department. The research is divided into two parts: one using the Pollution Index (IP) Method to determine water quality based on physical and chemical parameters, and the other using the Biological Monitoring Working Party-Average Score Per Taxon (BMWP-ASPT) Method to assess the river water quality based on macrozoobenthos. Based on the measurement of Total Organic Matter (TOM) in the Bektiharjo River, the highest result was found at Station 5, amounting to 15.4 mg/l, while the lowest result was at Station 1, which was 2.381 mg/l. The water quality measurement results based on the Pollution Index (IP) indicated that stations 1 to 3 met the quality standards with values <1, while stations 4 and 5 fell into the lightly polluted category with values ranging from 1 to 5. The water quality assessment using the BMWP-ASPT method revealed that stations 1 and 3 belong to the "very good" category, stations 2 and 5 are categorized as "very poor," and station 4 is categorized as "poor."
