Abstract

Mempertahankan jati diri arsitektur Indonesia menjadi hal yang penting agar hal tersebut tetap pekat dari generasi ke generasi. Selain itu, melestarikan jati diri tersebut diperlukan agar arsitektur di Indonesia tetap memiliki identitasnya. Reaktualisasi arsitektur lokal juga terjadi di daerah Toraja, Sulawesi Selatan. Toraja merupakan salah satu ikon budaya Indonesia yang memiliki identitas kuat dan diminati sebagai destinasi wisata. Untuk menunjang kegiatan wisata yang berada di dalamnya, di Rantepao terdapat beberapa tempat penginapan/hotel yang dapat membawa dan memperkenalkan jati diri arsitektur Indonesia melalui pariwisata. Transformasi pun diperlukan untuk membawa jati diri arsitektur tradisional Toraja pada bangunan hotel tersebut. Dengan menerapkan teori ‘Modern Classicism’ oleh Robert Stern yang kemudian dipinjam dan dimaknai kembali oleh Prof. Josef Prijotomo dalam ranah pengkinian arsitektur nusantara untuk mendapatkan transformasi bentuk arsitektur yang diterapkan pada tampilan visual/ rupa 4 hotel di Toraja Utara yang memiliki unsur arsitektur tradisional Tongkonan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif analitik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkatan transformasi bentuk arsitektur pada keempat objek kasus dapat diidentifikasi dengan menggunakan 6 kriteria yang berasal dari tinjauan, yaitu bentuk dasar dan komposisi, proporsi, struktur dan konstruksi, material dan warna, ornamen dan dekorasi, serta dasar kosmologis/ideologi.

English Abstract

Preserving the architectural identity of Indonesia is crucial to maintain its distinctiveness from one generation to another. Additionally, the preservation of this identity is necessary to ensure that architecture in Indonesia retains its unique characteristics. The re-actualization of local architecture is also occurring in the Toraja region, South Sulawesi. Toraja is one of Indonesia's cultural icons with a strong identity and is highly sought after as a tourist destination. To support tourism activities within Toraja, Rantepao is home to several accommodations and hotels that can showcase and introduce the architectural identity of Indonesia through tourism. Transformation is necessary to bring the traditional architectural identity of Toraja to these hotel structures. By applying Robert Stern's theory of 'Modern Classicism,' which has been further interpreted by Prof. Josef Prijotomo in the context of Indonesian architectural updates, the research aims to explore the transformation of architectural forms in the visual appearance of four hotels in North Toraja that feature traditional Tongkonan elements. The study utilizes a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. The findings reveal that the level of architectural transformation in the four case study objects can be identified by employing six criteria derived from the examination of basic form and composition, proportions, structure and construction, materials and colors, ornaments and decorations, as well as cosmological/ideological foundations.
