Abstract

Bahasa Inggris memiliki empat keterampilan yang perlu dikuasai, dan penelitian ini difokuskan pada keterampilan berbicara sebagai keterampilan penting yang perlu dikuasai. Untuk menguasai keterampilan berbahasa, motivasi menjadi peran kunci bagi para siswa itu sendiri. Beberapa peneliti telah menyatakan bahwa motivasi bervariasi dari faktor intrinsik dan ekstrinsik dalam situasi pembelajaran. Perubahan tiba-tiba dari mode daring ke luring mempengaruhi motivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran, terutama pada keterampilan berbicara. Penelitian ini menyelidiki motivasi siswa untuk berlatih keterampilan berbicara mereka di kelas setelah pandemi virus Corona 2019, di mana pembelajaran telah beralih dan mencampur media pembelajaran daring dan luring serta teknik pengajarannya. Fokus penelitian ini adalah motivasi intrinsik dan ekstrinsik siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dalam bentuk survei untuk mengumpulkan data. Data diperoleh dari kuesioner online yang diisi oleh para siswa di salah satu sekolah menengah atas di Batu. Penelitian ini dimulai dengan identifikasi masalah, kemudian menentukan pertanyaan penelitian, mengembangkan proposal penelitian yang mencakup pemilihan metode penelitian dan peserta, kemudian mengumpulkan data. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis dan dilaporkan berdasarkan pernyataan di dalam kuesioner. Peneliti menggunakan Microsoft Excel untuk analisis data dan menyajikan data dalam bentuk persentase (%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan siswa memiliki motivasi yang tinggi baik intrinsik maupun ekstrinsik, dengan ekstrinsik sedikit lebih rendah. Motivasi intrinsik yang tinggi terlihat dalam upaya mereka untuk menguasai bahasa Inggris, sementara kesalahan yang dibuat ketika berbicara kurang memotivasi. Secara eksternal, partisipasi aktif di kelas bertujuan mendapatkan nilai baik sangat memotivasi siswa, tetapi prospek hadiah kurang memengaruhi percakapan dalam bahasa Inggris

English Abstract

English has four skills that need to be mastered, and this research focused on speaking skill as the important skill that needs to be mastered. To master language skills, motivation plays a key role for the students themselves. As stated by several researchers, motivation varies from intrinsic and extrinsic factors in the learning situation. The sudden changes from online to offline mode affect students’ motivation in learning, especially on speaking skill. The research investigated the students’ motivation to practice their speaking skill in the classroom after Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, where the learning has shifted and blended offline and online learning media and teaching techniques. The focus of this research was students’ intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. This study used a quantitative approach in the form of a survey to collect the data. The data were obtained from an online questionnaire filled out by the students in one of the senior high schools in Batu. This research begins with identifying problem, then defining the research questions, developing the research proposal that includes deciding research method and target participants, then collecting the data. The collected data were then analyzed and reported based on the questionnaire items. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Microsoft Excel and presented it in the form of percentage (%). The result revealed that the students had a high level of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, but the extrinsic motivation is slightly lower than intrinsic motivation. High intrinsic motivation is evident in their pursuit of English proficiency. However, acknowledging speaking errors is less motivating. Externally, active classroom participation targets good grades, while the prospect of rewards or gifts minimally influences the engagement during English conversations
