Abstract

Hasil samping dari proses pembakaran batu bara pada PLTU Tanjung Awar – Awar adalah bottom ash dan fly ash. Setiap hari nya produksi fly ash mencapai 530 ton. Adanya kandungan SiO2 sebesar 42,66% dan Al2O3 sebesar 26,76% berpotensi untuk dijadikan adsorben limbah cair. Disamping itu, saat ini industri tekstil yang ada di Indonesia mencapai 790 industri. Semakin meningkatnya produksi maka limbah yang dihasilkan semakin meningkat. Salah satu limbah yang dihasilkan oleh industri tekstil adalah methylene blue mencapai 20 – 30 mg/L. Sedangkan baku mutu yang ditetapkan oleh Peraturan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan No. P.68/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/8/2016 sebesar 5 – 10 mg/L. Penelitian ini difokuskan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi awal methylene blue terhadap % penyisihan methylene blue menggunakan adsorben fly ash teraktivasi NaOH dan mengetahui model isoterm adsorpsi yang sesuai. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan preparasi bahan fly ash sebelum proses aktivasi dengan ukuran -150+200 mesh. Proses aktivasi dilakukan menggunakan aktivator NaOH 4M dengan perbandingan 1:5 m/v selama 6 jam. Pewarna methylene blue didapatkan dengan membuat larutan induk sebesar 30 ppm. Proses adsorpsi dengan variabel konsentrasi awal adsorbat sebesar 10, 15, 20, 25, dan 30 ppm dan variabel waktu selama 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15 dan 30 menit. Model isoterm yang digunakan adalah isoterm Langmuir, Freundlich, dan Dubinin Raduskevich. Proses pengujian yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini meliputi kadar air, kadar abu, kadar volatile, XRF (X-Ray Fluorosence), FTIR (Fourier Transformed Infrared) dan Spektrofotometri UV-VIS. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah semakin tinggi konsentrasi adsorbat maka semakin tinggi % penyisihan dengan nilai R2 sebesar 0,9469. Model isoterm yang sesuai pada penelitian ini adalah isoterm Freundlich dengan nilai R2 sebesar 0,9901 dan kapasitas adsorpsi yang didapatkan sebsar 80,891 mg/gr.

English Abstract

The by-products of the coal burning process at the Tanjung Awar – Awar PLTU are bottom ash and fly ash. Every day the production of fly ash reaches 530 tons. The presence of SiO2 content of 42.66% and Al2O3 of 26.76% has the potential to be used as an adsorbent for liquid waste. Besides that, currently the textile industry in Indonesia has reached 790 industries. As production increases, the amount of waste generated increases. One of the wastes produced by the textile industry is methylene blue reaching 20 – 30 mg/L. Meanwhile, the quality standards stipulated by the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.68/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/8/2016 of 5 – 10 mg/L. This research is focused on determining the effect of the initial concentration of methylene blue on the % removal of methylene blue using NaOH activated fly ash adsorbent and knowing the appropriate adsorption isotherm model. In this study, the preparation of fly ash materials before the activation process was carried out with a size of -150+200 mesh. The activation process was carried out using 4M NaOH activator with a ratio of 1:5 m/v for 6 hours. Methylene blue dye is obtained by making a mother liquor of 30 ppm. Adsorption process with initial adsorbate concentration variables of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 ppm and time variables for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes. The isotherm models used are Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin Raduskevich isotherms. The testing processes carried out in this study included moisture content, ash content, volatile content, XRF (X-Ray Fluorosence), FTIR (Fourier Transformed Infrared) and UV-VIS Spectrophotometry. The results of this study are the higher the adsorbate concentration, the higher the % removal with an R2 value of 0.9469. The isotherm model suitable for this study is the Freundlich isotherm with an R2 value of 0.9901 and the adsorption capacity obtained is 80.891 mg/gr.
