ABSTRACT Olivia, Yolanda. 2022. Students’ Perception on The Use of Summarizing as A Technique in Reading Comprehension Class, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Brawijaya University. Supervisor : Irene Nany Kusumawardani, S.Hum, M.Li Keywords : Reading Comprehension, Summary, Summarizing Technique, Students’ Perception Providing a technique in reading comprehension which help the students to comprehend the text better is the goal of reading comprehension class. This study aimed to know the students’ perception about the use of summarizing technique in reading comprehension class. The study was conducted in English Education Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Brawijaya University. The participants of this study was 100 students of English Education Program batch 2018 and 2019. This research used survey as the research design. The questionnaire consisted of 9 items related to the use of summarizing technique in reading comprehension class. The option of each items using 4 likert scale to seek for the students’ perception. A descriptive statictic was used to analyze the data. Based on the result, it showed that most of the students having a positive perception towards summarizing technique. This technique also allowed the students experienced a various activity of reading, not only reading the text, but also being productive by writing a summary. For teaching reading, this research contribute to deliver the perception of the students towards this technique. The researcher hope that the teacher/lecturer can reconsider to use this technique in reading class because of the positive result that shown in this study.
