Abstract

English Abstract

Introduction: CKD stage V is an independent risk factor for osteoporosis. The risk of fracture in routine hemodialysis patients increases five times. KDIGO suggest DXA BMD examination to assess the patient’s bone density if this will affect the patient’s therapy. DXA machines are not available at every healthcare center that provides hemodialysis, while X-ray machines for radiographic examination are available at every health center. Research report: This research is a retrospective study involving 50 patients aged >18 years, consisting of 25 stage V CKD patients undergoing routine hemodialysis and control patients who met the criteria. This research compared the second metacarpal cortex thickness ratio value from human radiography examination with the BMD value in patients undergoing routine hemodialysis and compared the CTR value and BMD value between patients undergoing routine hemodialysis and controls. Discussion: Conformity was found between CTR values and BMD values in routine hemodialysis patients (p = 1.00, kappa = 1.00) and there were no significant differences in CTR values (p = 0.433) or BMD values T score; p = 0.62 (p>0,05) and Z score; p = 0.25 (p>0,05)) between hemodialysis patients routine and control. Conclusion: It was found that CTR and BMD values were compatible in routine hemodialysis patients
