English Abstract
ABSTRACT Hairunnisa. (2022). Pre-service English Teachers’ Perception on Their Speaking Skill amidst Corona Pandemic. English Education Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Universitas Brawijaya. Supervisor: Didik Hartono S.S., M.P.d. Keywords: Speaking Skills, Pre-Service English Teachers, Perception, Corona Pandemic. The purpose of this study is to determine pre-service English teachers' perceptions of their speaking skills during the corona pandemic. This research employed a descriptive qualitative design. The participants of this research are 3 students of English Language Education Study Program batch 2019 who were chosen as the research subjects. They have been categorized based on their academic performance. The unstructured interview was used as the instrument within 5 questions. The result revealed from this study were indicated that the speaking skills of all the Subjects are decrease amidst corona pandemic because online learning had a bad effect on their speaking skills during the corona pandemic because of the lack of interaction in the classroom, the least amount of correction of students' speaking from the lecturers, the lack of a supportive environment to practice speaking skills, and the convenience provided when online learning reduced student motivation in learning. This indicates the need for students to receive support from their environment in implementing speaking skills, the need for learning methods that require students to speak during online learning provided by lecturers, and the need for strong motivation for students to continue to improve their speaking skills.
