Abstract
English Abstract
Biogas is one of Indonesian Government’s focuses on renewable energy development in Indonesia based on bioenergy. The goal for biogas Biogas’s contribution in national energy usage in 2025 is 489,8 millions m3. However, the realization as of September 2022 is only 32,47 millions m3. Biogas consist CO2 as an impurity substance with highest concentration that causes a decrease in calorific value of biogas combustion. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out purification to increase the calorific value of combustion. One way to purify biogas is using adsorption process with activated carbon adsorbent. The capacity of activated carbon can be increased by adding amine compound with impregnation method. The aims of this research are to determine the effects of MEA (Monoethanolamine) impregnation towards the capability of activated carbon in CO2 contained in biogas using adsorption column and to determine the effects of mass ratio of activated carbon with MEA (Monoethanolamine) solution in impregnation process towards adsorption capacity of CO2. In this research, mass ratio variations of Activated Carbon/MEA used in impregnation process are 1:1; 1:1.25; 1:1.5; 1:1.75; 1:2. The results of this research showed that the breakthrough time for impregnated activated carbon increased by 2.6 times compared to activated carbon. The highest adsorption capacity was obtained with an Active Carbon/MEA ratio of 1:2 with an adsorption capacity value of 129.178 mg CO₂/g adsorbent.
