Abstract

English Abstract

The implementation of social restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic can reduce physical activity and sport activities. The impact of these events on adults has not been widely studied. This study aimed to examine changes in physical activity and exercise in adults during a pandemic and their differences based on socio demographics. This research design was an analytical observation using a cross-sectional research project through an online survey of 249 respondents. The results showed that the majority of respondents at moderate physical activity level were 52.2%, low physical activity were 28.5%, and high physical activity were 19.3%. The mean MET score was 2648.1 ± 5006.93. The duration of exercise was mostly at the duration of 0-30 minutes per week as much as 87.6%. Sports activities that have a reduced impact during the COVID-19 pandemic were sports outside the home as much as 48.2%. Sedentary activities such as watching television and using smartphones became more during the pandemic at 45.7%. The most common type of exercise was brisk walking/jogging as much as 61%. The results of the analysis between physical activity with gender and level of education showed a significant difference (p <0.05). It is hoped that the public, especially adults, will continue to do physical activity and exercise in accordance with the recommendations shared by WHO, which is approximately 150 minutes a week because it can have a positive impact on health.
