Abstract

Biopelet merupakan bahan bakar alternatif berbentuk pelet yang dihasilkan dari proses densifikasi dan umumnya terbuat dari limbah biomassa. Salah satu biomassa yang dapat digunakan yaitu ampas tebu (bagasse). Konversi ampas tebu menjadi biopelet masih memiliki kelemahan diantaranya pembakaran yang kurang sempurna dan tidak merata, tingginya kadar abu hingga terbentuknya kerak (slag). Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut dapat dilakukan penambahan bahan aditif dan katalis berupa zeolit alam dan NaOH. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisa pengaruh ukuran partikel serta penambahan zeolit alam dan NaOH terhadap karakteristik biopelet ampas tebu serta mengetahui perlakuan ukuran partikel dan variasi komposisi penambahan zeolit alam dan NaOH untuk memperoleh biopelet terbaik. Penelitian dirancang berdasarkan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan dua faktorial antara lain ukuran partikel dan variasi komposisi antara ampas tebu, zeolit alam dan NaOH. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa perlakuan ukuran partikel memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap densitas/kerapatan, kadar abu, kadar zat menguap dan kuat tekan biopelet. Pada perlakuan variasi komposisi berupa penambahan zeolit alam dan NaOH memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap kadar air, kadar abu, kadar zat menguap, nilai kalor dan kuat tekan biopelet. Selain itu, sebagian besar parameter biopelet yang diuji telah memenuhi standar SNI 8675:2018. Akan tetapi, pada nilai kalor yang dihasilkan pada biopelet cenderung belum memenuhi standar SNI 8675:2018. Perlakuan terbaik pada perlakuan ukuran partikel dan variasi komposisi penambahan zeolit alam dan NaOH yaitu pada biopelet dengan ukuran partikel 20 mesh dengan variasi komposisi antara ampas tebu, zeolit alam, NaOH sebesar 98.4%: 0.1%: 1.5%. Perlakuan tersebut menghasilkan biopelet dengan nilai densitas/kerapatan sebesar 0.865 gram/cm3 , kadar air sebesar 6.152%, kadar abu sebesar 6.867%, kadar zat menguap sebesar 71.898%, kadar karbon terikat sebesar 15.083%, nilai kalor sebesar 16.13 MJ/kg, laju pembakaran sebesar 0.17747 gram/menit dan kuat tekan sebesar 77.270 N/mm2 .

English Abstract

Biopellets are pellet-shaped alternative fuels produced from a densification process and are generally made from biomass waste. One of the biomass that can be used is bagasse. The conversion of bagasse into biopellets still has weaknesses including incomplete and uneven combustion, high ash content and the formation of slag. To overcome these problems, additives and catalysts in the form of natural zeolite and NaOH can be added. The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of particle size and the addition of natural zeolite and NaOH on the characteristics of bagasse biopellets and to determine the particle size treatment and composition variation of the addition of natural zeolite and NaOH to obtain the best biopellets. The research was designed based on a completely randomised design (CRD) with two factorials, including particle size and composition variations between bagasse, natural zeolite and NaOH. Based on the results of the study, it is known that particle size treatment has a significant effect on density, ash content, volatile matter content, combustion rate and compressive strength of biopellets. In the treatment of composition variations in the form of the addition of natural zeolite and NaOH gave a significant effect on moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, calorific value, combustion rate and compressive strength of biopellets. In addition, most of the biopelet parameters tested have met the SNI 8675: 2018 standard. However, the calorific value produced in biopellets tends not to meet the standards of SNI 8675: 2018. The best treatment in the particle size treatment and variation in the composition of the addition of natural zeolite and NaOH is in biopellets with a particle size of 20 mesh with a composition variation between bagasse, natural zeolite, NaOH of 98.4%: 0.1%: 1.5%. The treatment produced biopellets with a density value of 0.865 grams/cm3 , moisture content of 6.152%, ash content of 6.867%, volatile matter content of 71.898%, bound carbon content of 15.083%, calorific value of 16.13 MJ/kg, combustion rate of 0.17747 grams/minute and compressive strength of 77.270 N/mm2 .
