Abstract

English Abstract

The Jurang Susuh River in Giripurno Village, Bumiaji District is one of the rivers whose flow passes through residential areas, plantations, rice fields and development activities. These activities can have a negative impact on river quality, such as disposing of waste directly into water bodies. Various activities carried out around the river also affect the condition of river water quality which can cause changes in environmental factors so that it will be bad for the life of aquatic organisms. Therefore, it is necessary to observe the water quality of the Jurang Susuh river in Giripurno Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City so that the aquatic environment can be maintained in a sustainable quality for both human and animal activities and other aquatic organisms. The research location consisted of 6 sampling points located in Giripurno Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, East Java. Environmental parameters that were measured included non-water, namely substrate type and current velocity, and physical factors, namely temperature and chemical factors, including acidity (pH), dissolved oxygen (DO), total organic matter (TOM), ammonia and hardness. The sampling method for macroinvertebrates was carried out using the kicking method with a length of 10 m using a net with a mesh size of 500 m. Data analysis used the BMWP (Biological Monitoring Working Party) index and continued with calculating scores using the ASPT (Average Score per Taxon) formula. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition and macroinvertebrates as well as the health condition of the water quality of the Jurang Susuh river. This research is expected to be used as scientific information on waters, especially on rivers and macroinvertebrates in biomonitoring lectures. In addition, it can also be used as a source of information for further research on macroinvertebrates in the Jurang Susuh River. The results of the study showed that the macroinvertebrates found in the Jurang Susuh River in Giripurno Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, amounted to 23 taxa consisting of 23 taxa, consisting of 11 orders (Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Plecoptera, Odonata, Gastropods, Diptera, and Decapoda) 5 Class (Gastropoda, Insecta, Polychaeta, Crustacea, Oligochaeta) and 1 Species (Chironomus thummi). The highest number of taxa was at station 1 with 8 taxa including Thiaridae, Baetidae, Caenidae, Elmidae, Perlidae, Simuliidae, Planorbidae, Tipulidae, Hydropsychidae, Chironomus tummi, and Lumbriculidae. The lowest number of taxa was at station 2 with 8 taxa including Lumbriculidae, Chironomus tummi, Thiaridae, Baetidae, Elmidae, Hydropsychidae, Syrphidae, and Planorbidae. Macroinvertebrates that are often found are from the Gastropod class (Thiaridae and Planorbidae) and the Chironomus tummi species from the Choronomidae. The results of the analysis using the BMWP-ASPT index method obtained the results of station 1 with a value of 4.8 and stations 2–6 with a value of 3.5 each;2.8; 3.5; 3.3. These results indicate that the condition of the waters of the Jurang Susuh River has been included in the bad category. The results of the environmental parameters of the Jurang Susuh River flow are substrates including medium rock to mud and sand, the current speed ranges from 0.2-0.32 m/sec. Current velocity results indicate that the current velocity of the Jurang Susuh River is classified as slow current. Measurement of water quality parameters at temperatures ranging from 20–24 , degrees of acidity ranging from 7.5–7.84, TOM levels ranging from 6.32–18, 96 mg/L, DO levels ranging from 5.4–11.5 mg/L. L, ammonia levels ranged from 0.124–0.249 mg/L and hardness ranged from 148– 188 mg/L. Based on the results of the study, suggestions that can be given are to carry out rehabilitation by implementing a system of replanting trees that have been cut down. In addition, the Batu city government is expected to be able to build a waste bank facility so that waste can be processed and not directly dumped into river bodies.
