Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

Maggot Black Soldier Fly (BSF), Hermetia illucens, is one of the insects that can be used as an alternative to additional feed for broiler chickens because of its nutritional content. The protein content of maggot larvae is in the range of 37% - 63% and fat content of 15% - 49%. In addition, maggot does not contain toxic elements that have the potential to produce negative effects. Broiler chicken is a source of animal protein that is easily available and the price is affordable for all people. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of maggot powder as an additional feed on the performance of broiler chickens in the starter and finisher phases and to determine the addition of maggot powder as an additional feed to optimize nutrient absorption based on histomorphometry of jejunum villi in starter and finisher phase broilers. Arrangement of broiler chicken population which consisted of 5 treatment groups and each consisted of 4 replications where each replication contained 5 tails in one cage, so that the total number of chickens were 100 chickens, namely P0 (negative control), P1 (commercial feed + maggot flour 5 %), P2 (commercial feed + 10% maggot flour), P3 (commercial feed + 15% maggot flour), P4 (commercial feed + 20% maggot flour). Broiler chickens were acclimatized for seven days before treatment, given standard PT. Japfa Comfeed Broiler 1 in the form of fine crumble and drink ad libitum. Data were analyzed descriptively on histology observations. Measurement and analysis of jejunal villi histomorphometry data was carried out quantitatively where the data were analyzed by one way ANOVA variance to determine the difference between treatments and if there was a significant difference, then the Tukey test = 5%. The results showed that the addition of Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) maggot flour 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% in the starter and finisher phases yielded results (P<0.05) which showed a significant difference between the treatment groups. The conclusion of this study is that the concentration that has a significant effect on the addition of Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) maggot flour on the addition of jejenum organ villi height in broiler chickens in the starter phase is in group P4 and the finisher phase is in group P1.
