Pangestu, Herlambang and drg. Viranda Sutanti, M.Si (2023) Efektivitas Kombinasi Sorbitol Dan Grain Kefir Dalam Menghambat Pertumbuhan Bakteri Streptococcus Mutans. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Karies gigi termasuk penyakit multifaktorial dan salah satu faktor penyebab utama adalah bakteri. Mikroorganisme utama penyebab karies yaitu bakteri Streptococcus mutans.

English Abstract

Background: Dental caries is a multi-factorial disease and one of the main causes is bacteria. The main microorganism that is responsible for caries is Streptococcus mutans. Sorbitol and Grain kefir are known to contain antibacterial properties. Antibacterial substances can assist in preventing the growth and spread of bacteria. Aim: To identify the efficacy of the combination of sorbitol and grain kefir in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Methods: The method utilized was the Total Plate Count method. The concentrations of sorbitol and grain kefir used were 10%, 12.5%, 15%, 17.5%, 20%, 22.5% and 25%. Findings: After the study, the number of average colonies of the combined sorbitol and grain kefir was 51 colonies at a concentration of 10% and there was no growth of bacterial colonies at concentrations of 12.5%, 15%, 17.5%, 20%, 22.5% and 25%. Conclusion: There was a meaningful difference (p<0.05) in the concentration of the combination of sorbitol and grain kefir and it was proven to be efficient as an antibacterial component by reducing the number of Streptococcus mutans colonies as the concentration increased.
