Abstract

English Abstract

Wirotaman Village in Malang Regency, Java, is recognized as the “Diversity Village” due to the harmonious religious life amid the existing religious diversity. Despite the religious sentiments arising from the ‘212’ events in 2017, Wirotaman Village successfully maintained harmony among its residents. Research visits revealed that Wirotaman Village is home to a diverse population practicing Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism. The uniqueness lies in the proximity of the three places of worship, reflecting tolerance among religious communities. During the village’s anniversary celebrations, the rich atmosphere of diversity captures attention, motivating the research to understand how the community maintains harmony and strengthens tolerance. This research aims to provide insights into how Wirotaman Village preserves harmony amid diversity and identifies the potential for internal religious conflicts. The research results are expected to serve as a guide for other regions in Indonesia seeking to strengthen tolerance in multicultural societies. From an anthropological perspective, this study highlights the relationship between religion, work ethics, and the economic growth of the community. This view reinforces the importance of an anthropological approach in understanding the potential for internal religious conflicts in diverse societies. By attempting to change perspectives on religion, there can be a shift in work ethics, contributing to economic development and fostering harmony in multicultural communities.
