Abstract
English Abstract
Rivers are freshwater area that widespread all over the world and play an important role both for ecosystems and for humans. Mawar River is one of the Brantas River’s stream that flows along Sidomulyo Village, Batu District, Batu City. This river flow also meets the flow of the Umbul Gemulo spring. The Mawar River is used by the community as a water source for households, industries and tourisms such as hotels and restaurants, and also cultivation and agriculture activity. These activities are potential to cause the water pollution so that water quality monitoring is urgently needed. Macrozoobenthos is an organism that often used as a bioindicator in the process of biological monitoring because it lives sedentary on some water areas and sensitive to changes in the aquatic environment. The aim of this study is to analyze water quality status based on physical, chemical and biological parameters and analyze water conditions based on the BMWP – ASPT index. This study uses descriptive methods and survey methods and carried out during January – March 2023. The water quality measurement on this study was carried out by twice sampling for a month, at 5 sampling stations spread across Punten, Sidomulyo, and Bumiaji Villages. Water quality parameters measured in this study are temperature, current speed, substrate type, TSS, TDS, pH, DO, BOD and ammonia. Meanwhile, macrozoobenthos samples were identified by the composition of macrozoobenthos and relative density calculations. Furthermore, data analysis on this study was carried out through BMWP – ASPT analysis and Pollution Index (IP) analysis. The results of this study showed that found a total of 21 families of macrozoobenthos from 14 different orders in the Mawar River. The families found are part of the Alluroidida, Arhynchobdellida, Basommatophora, Coleoptera, Decapoda, Diptera, Ephemeroptera, Littorinimorpha, Lumbriculida, Neotaeniglossa, Phyllodocida, Trichoptera, Tricladida, and Tubificida orders. Based on BMWP scores, the range of values at the five stations are among 5 – 5.9 with the highest value at station 1 and the lowest at station 5. ASPT calculations showed that all five stations are classified as lightly polluted waters. The same results are shown in the calculation of the pollution index where the waters are classified as lightly polluted at all stations. The pollution index value (Pij) of the Mawar River are among 0.966 – 1.150 with the lowest value at station 1 and the highest at station 5. The suggestions given based on this study’s values were to make some attempts to cope with the pollution, strengthen rules and policies related to the preservation of the aquatic environment, and minimize land use change around the river both for related stakeholders also local communities to preserve the Mawar River sustainability.
