Abstract
Strategi permintaan maaf adalah sebuah cabang dari tindak tutur yang menginvestigasi bagaimana bahasa bias digunakan untuk memperbaiki keadaan antara pembicara dan pendengar. Ada banyak cara bagi pembicara untuk menyampaikan sebuah pemintaan maaf. Kita sering mendengar seorang pembicara meminta maaf tanpa mengucapkan kata “maaf”. Strategi permintaan maaf bukan merupakan sebuah mata kuliah yang diajarkan secara spesifik di sekolah maupun di universitas. Ketika mempelajari tentang tindak tutur, strategi permintaan maaf jarang dibahas di kelas yang membuat tidak semua pelajar mengerti tentang hal ini. Karena itulah, penelitian ini menginvestigasi permintaan maaf yang digunakan oleh seseorang untuk mengetahui arti dan maksud dari pemintaan maaf tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif karena data yang diambil oleh penulis merupakan atau ucapan-ucapan dari Chad Griffin. Penulis fokus pada ujaran yang berisi strategi permintaan maaf yang digunakan oleh Griffin. Data yang dikumpulkan diambil dari situs YouTube dalam bentuk video dan dianalisis berdasarkan teori strategi permintaan maaf oleh Trosborg (1995). Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 21 ujaran permintaan maaf yang disampaikan oleh Griffin. Namun, dari 21 ujaran tersebut, terdapat beberapa ujaran yang bisa dikategorikan kedalam dua kategori berbeda. Trosborg (1995) mengemukakan bahwa ada 5 strategi permintaan maaf yaitu, Evasive Strategy, Indirect Strategy, Direct Strategi, Remedial Support dan Opting Out. Dari lima strategi tersebut, terdapat empat strategi yang muncul pada pidato permintaan maaf oleh Chad Griffin dan hanya satu yang tidak muncul yaitu Opting Out. Dari 21 ujaran, 10 ujaran dikategorikan sebagai Indirect Strategy, 13 ujaran dikategorikan sebagai Remedial Support, 3 ujaran dikategorikan sebagai Direct Apology dan hanya 1 ujaran dikategorikan sebagai Evasive strategi.
English Abstract
Apology Strategies is a study of speech act investigating how people use language as a means to repair certain condition between speaker and hearer. There are many ways for people to deliver an apology. We often experience and hear a speaker apologize without saying the word “sorry” or “apologize”. Apology strategies is not a subject or a specific course in our school or college or any educational institutions. Apology strategies is only a part of linguistics aspect called “Speech act”. When learning about speech act, apology strategies is rarely discussed in the class which makes some learners do not understand about it. Due to the reasons, this research investigates the apology strategies used by certain person to find out the meaning and the purpose of the apology and also to figure out why there are many people disliked the apology but still accept it. This study uses qualitative method, with descriptive type of research. The data source for this research is a video containing a speech from Chad Griffin. The speech was about the inequality of rights for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender). The data for the research are the apology utterances delivered by Chad Griffin as the president of HRC (Human Right Campaign). The apology utterances is analysed using apology strategies theory proposed by Trosborg (1995). In Addition, the explanations of the context surrounding the apology utterances help the writer to decide what apology strategies used by Griffin. The result of this research shows there are 21 apology utterances delivered by Chad Griffin. However from 21 utterances, there are some utterances that can be categorized as two different strategies. Trosborg (1995), has proposed 5 strategy of delivering apologies. Those are Evasive Strategy, Indirect Apology Strategy, Direct Apology Strategy, Remedial Support and Opting out. From those five strategy, there are four strategy found in Griffin’s speech. The only unused strategy is opting out. From twenty one utterances found in the speech, there are 10 utterances categorized as Indirect Apology strategy, 13 utterances categorized as Remedial Support, 3 utterances belong to Direct Apology Strategy and only 1 utterance categorized as Evasive Strategy.
