Abstract
English Abstract
has caused the growth of all industrial sectors to experience a decline. This crisis has impacted the property and real estate sector, causing several companies to go bankrupt. This research will explain the importance of factors that can cause financial distress in a company so that management can make the best decisions to avoid bankruptcy. This study aims to test and prove empirically the effect of liquidity, leverage, activity, and sales growth on financial distress mediated by profitability. This study uses a quantitative approach with a sample of property and real estate sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The total population is 47 companies with a research period of 3 years (2019-2021). Sampling using the saturated sampling method. Analysis of research data using the method of path analysis and Sobel test. The results showed that liquidity, activity ratio and sales growth had a significant effect on profitability. However, leverage has no effect on profitability. In addition, the results showed that leverage, activity ratio affects financial distress. However, liquidity and sales growth did not affect financial distress. In this study, the sobel test shows that profitability is able to mediate the relationship between liquidity, activity ratio and sales growth against financial distress. However, profitability is unable to mediate the relationship between leverage and financial distress.
