Abstract

English Abstract

Sargassum is a type of algae that is rarely cultivated compared to other seaweeds. It is still predominantly obtained naturally by communities, and many subtropical countries utilize Sargassum for research purposes to determine its composition. Cultivating Sargassum requires sunlight for photosynthesis and CO2 fixation, as well as ultraviolet radiation for its growth. Water movement plays a crucial role in transporting nutrients and cleansing the algae from debris that hinders photosynthesis. Population density and environmental conditions also influence the growth of Sargassum. Controlled cultivation can accelerate growth and facilitate the monitoring of the algae. The research method used in this study is a 2x2x2 full factorial completely randomized design with eight treatments and three replications. The results of the study include the highest growth measurement, which is L2C1D1 (14.5 ± 0.67 g), and the lowest is L1C2D2 (7.8 ± 0.59 g). The highest specific growth rate is L2C1D1 (2.56 ± 0.067% per day), and the lowest is L1C2D2 (0.71 ± 0.046% per day). The highest thallus length is L2C1D1 (6.01 ± 0.60 cm), and the lowest is L1C1D2 (3.12 ± 0.22 cm). The highest thallus diameter is L2C1D1 (0.46 ± 0.06 cm), and the lowest is L1C1D1 (0.26 ± 0.06 cm). The highest leaf count is L2C1D1 (173 ± 10.54), and the lowest is L1C2D2 (72 ± 15.82). The highest bladder count is L2C1D1 (79.67 ± 5.69), and the lowest is L1C2D2 (42 ± 8.19), as well as the highest alginate content in seaweed, which is L2C1D2 (16.87 ± 0.007%), and the lowest is L1C1D2 (9.40 ± 0.004%). The L2C1D1 treatment is considered the best for increasing thallus length, leaf count, and bladder count. Full light and low density are the optimal treatments for alginate content.
