Abstract

English Abstract

Objective: To investigate the differences in serum IL-27 levels between people with ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) and seropositive individuals without ocular lesions, as well as the correlations between serum IL-27 levels and the size of retinal lesions, and the degree of vitreous inflammation. Method: An observational cross-sectional design is used in this study. The study's sample consisted of two groups of patients from RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang's Eye Clinic: those who had ocular toxoplasmosis and those who were seropositive without ocular lesions. Using the sandwich ELISA technique, the serum IL-27 levels in each group were assessed, and any differences between the two groups' serum IL-27 levels were statistically examined. The size of the retinal lesion and the degree of vitreous inflammation were assessed in patients with ocular toxoplasmosis, and statistical analysis was performed to determine the relationship between these parameters and serum IL-27 levels. Results: The total sample size for this study was 21 people, consisting of 10 seropositive individuals and 11 patients with ocular toxoplasmosis. There was no significant difference in serum IL-27 levels between the OT group and the seropositive group (p=0.360). There was no significant correlation between serum IL-27 levels and retinal lesion size (p=0.556). Additionally, there was no significant correlation between serum IL-27 levels and the severity of ocular inflammation (p=0.215). Conclusion: There was no difference in serum IL-27 levels between OT patients and seropositive individuals, and serum IL-27 levels in the OT group were not related to the size of retinal lesions or the degree of vitreous inflammation.
