Abstract
Pidato Scott Yenor mendapat perhatian besar dari publik terkait pernyataannya yang meremehkan perempuan dalam bidang kehidupan tertentu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola linguistik transitivitas dalam pidatonya dan untuk mengetahui sudut pandang ideologi Scott Yenor dalam menggambarkan perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dalam hal analisis dokumen karena bentuk datanya berupa transkrip pidato. Data tersebut berupa video pidato Scott Yenor berjudul “Family Forms That Nations Need” yang diambil dari YouTube di bawah kanal National Conservatism. Pidato ditranskrip menjadi teks dengan menggunakan generator transkrip. Untuk menganalisis data, penelitian ini menerapkan Kerangka Tiga Dimensi oleh Fairclough (2001) dengan bantuan sistem transitivitas oleh Halliday (2014). Hasil analisis mengungkapkan bahwa jumlah klausa yang berkaitan dengan perempuan ditemukan sebanyak 45 klausa. Relasional proses memiliki frekuensi tertinggi yang terdiri dari 17 klausa, diikuti 15 klausa perilaku, 9 klausa mental, dan 4 klausa verbal. Ideologi Scott Yenor diwujudkan dalam praktik wacana yang mengungkapkan pandangan politiknya dengan berpartisipasi dalam organisasi di bawah ideologi konservatisme. Pidato yang disampaikannya juga menanamkan salah satu prinsip konservatisme yaitu tradisi kekeluargaan. Pada analisis tahap terakhir, praktik sosio-kultural menunjukkan bahwa pidato juga merupakan bagian dari agenda Konservatisme Nasional untuk menyebarkan ideologi di masyarakat Amerika. Tahap ini juga menunjukkan ketidaksetujuannya terhadap keberadaan feminisme karena ia berpendapat untuk membatasi perempuan ke dalam bidang STEM, Medis, dan Hukum dan menuntut laki-laki untuk memasuki bidang tersebut yang juga merupakan ideologi seksis. Penelitian ini berfokus untuk mengkaji wacana yang terjadi di masyarakat Amerika. Oleh karena itu, untuk melakukan analisis lebih lanjut tentang penggambaran perempuan dalam wacana tertentu, peneliti selanjutnya dapat mempertimbangkan untuk memperluas penelitian mereka dengan mendiskusikan dan membandingkan bagaimana perempuan dipersepsikan dalam masyarakat lain dalam hal budaya dan ideologi yang mendasarinya.
English Abstract
The speech of Scott Yenor receives great attention from the public regarding his statement of disparaging women in certain areas of life. This study aims to describe the linguistics patterns of transitivity within the speech and to find out the ideological viewpoints of Scott Yenor in portraying women The present study employs qualitative approach in terms of document analysis since the data form is a speech transcript. The data is a speech video by Scott Yenor entitled “Family Forms That Nations Need” which is taken from the YouTube video under the channel of National Conservatism. The speech was transcribed into text by using transcript generator. To analyze the data, this research applied three-dimensional framework by Fairclough (2001) with the assistance of transitivity system by Halliday (2014). Findings revealed that the amount of clauses relating to the women found out to be 45 clauses. Relational process is the highest frequency that consist of 17 clauses, followed by 15 behavioral clauses, 9 mental clauses, and 4 verbal clauses. The ideology of Scott Yenor is realized in the discourse practice which reveals his political view by participating in organizations under conservatism ideology. The speech he delivers is also embedded one of the principle of conservatism which is family tradition. In the last stage of analysis, socio-cultural practice shows that the speech is also part of the agenda of National Conservatism to spread the ideology in the American society. This stage also indicates his disagreement to the existence of feminism as he argues to limit women into the field of STEM, Medical, and Law and demand for men to enter those fields which also represents as a sexist ideology. This research focuses on examining the discourse that occurs in America society. Therefore, to conduct further analysis on the portrayal of women in certain discourse, future researchers can consider expanding their research by discussing and comparing how women are perceived in other societies in terms of their culture and underlying ideology.
