Abstract

Ketertarikan penulis mengangkat karakter Sloth (Kungkang) sebagai topik dari penulisan tugas akhir berawal dari pertemuan penulis dengan karakter Flash dalam film animasi Zootopia. Kilasan dari karakter Flash dengan sikap lamban, santai dan rileks adalah gambaran diri penulis dan problematikanya. Hadirnya persepsi sinis atas sikap ini dalam masyarakat yang selalu berelasi dengan ketidaksuksesan dan hal-hal negatif menjadi pemicu untuk menjelajahi kemungkinan-kemungkinan sikap ini hadir dalam persepsi lainnya lewat karakter Slothead. Slothead adalah visualisasi karakter kepala kungkang yang menjadi manifestasi atas sebuah cara berfikir, menyikapi, dan merespon sekitar. Landasan teori yang digunakan dalam penciptaan karya dengan metode penciptaan L.H. chapman yakni (1) Inception of ideas,(2) Elaboration and refinement, dan (3) Heention in a medium adalah teori metafora dan dekonstruksi. Film, buku, serta pengalaman penulis menjadi bagian dari sumber ide penciptaan karya seni lukis. Perwujudan karya sebanyak tujuh buah karya akan menggunakan beberapa media yang berbeda seperti kanvas, papan MDF, kaca, dan kertas. Visualisasi karya penulis dimetaforakan dalam karakter Slothead sebagai kacamata untuk menguraikan kerumitan dan ketegangan antara kecepatan dan kelambatan. . Maka dari keseluruhan karya penulis proses yang hendak dituju adalah refleksi diri lewat penghadiran ulang pengalaman masa lalu, dan pemaknaan ulang atas konteks lamban, santai dan rileks dengan menghadirkan gambaran- gambaran harapan untuk diri ke depan. Harapan penulis lewat karyanya akan terjalin ruang komunikasi yang membuka sudut pandang luas dan meninggalkan pengalaman batin pada audience.

English Abstract

The author's interest in exploring the character of Sloth (Kungkang) as the topic of the final project originated from the encounter with the character Flash in the animated movie Zootopia. The glimpses of Flash's slow, relaxed, and laid-back attitude resonated with the author's own self-image and its complexities. However, the prevalent cynical perception of such an attitude in society, often associated with failure and negativity, prompted the author to explore other perspectives on this demeanor through the character Slothead. Slothead is the visualization of a sloth's head, representing a way of thinking, responding, and perceiving the surroundings. The theoretical foundation used in creating the artworks follows L.H. Chapman's method, which includes (1) Inception of ideas, (2) Elaboration and refinement, and (3) Heention in a medium, employing theories of metaphor and deconstruction. Films, books, and the author's personal experiences contribute to the sources of ideas for the creation of artistic paintings. The author will manifest seven artworks using various media such as canvas, MDF board, glass, and paper. The visualization of the author's creations is metaphorically represented through the character Slothead, serving as a lens to unravel the complexities and tensions between speed and slowness. The overall creative process of the author aims to reflect upon oneself by re-presenting past experiences and reinterpreting the contexts of slowness, relaxation, and laid-back attitudes while incorporating visions and hopes for the future. The author's aspiration through these artworks is to create a communicative space that opens up boundless perspectives and leaves a profound inner experience for the audience.
