Abstract
Isu perburuhan merupakan bagian yang selalu ada dalam kehidupan zaman ini, sedangkan sastra adalah salah satu alat yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan bagian dari kehidupan. Analisis film Sorry to Bother You (2018) oleh Boots Riley bertujuan untuk menjelajahi salah satu aspek seputar isu perburuhan, yaitu tentang tindakan dilakukan oleh para buruh yang sebenarnya bertentangan dengan kepentingan mereka. Dengan menggunakan lensa sosiologi sastra serta teori Marxis tentang ideologi dan kapitalisme, yang berdasarkan pada hubungan berlawanan antara kelas proletar dan borjuis, analisis deskriptif kualitatif ini menganalisis fenomena bagaimana kelas pekerja mengalami hambatan untuk melihat pandangan dunia yang tepat. Kesadaran palsu adalah aspek dari ideologi dimana seseorang individu terhalang dari melihat realitas eksploitasi dan dominasi antara kelas pekerja dan pemilik di dalam hubungan kapitalis. Selain itu, peran hegemoni dan kaum intelektual juga memiliki berperan dalam bagaimana kesadaran palsu dapat memiliki pengaruh pada kelas pekerja dalam berbagai aspek di dalam film ini. Temuan dari analisa ini menunjukkan adanya kesadaran palsu, yang tampak di dalam film sebagai tiga aspek: 1) invokasi, yaitu aspek membuat pandangan dunia yang dibengkokkan agar kelas dominan mendapatkan persetujuan dari kelas subordinat; 2) persetujuan, di mana persetujuan dari kelas subordinat untuk diatur oleh kelas dominan berhasil dijalankan; 3) perlawanan, yaitu saat kesadaran palsu gagal terwujud, dan ideologi kapitalis ditantang oleh ideologi proletariat. Untuk penelitian lebih lanjut, ada baiknya untuk melihat bagaimana klasifikasi kelompok sosial lain selain kelas dapat berpengaruh dengan dinamika hubungan antara kelas.
English Abstract
Labor issues are an ever-present part of modern life, and literature is a tool often used to describe parts of life. The analysis on Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You (2018) is a movie that explores one aspect surrounding labor issues concerning the contradictory actions taken by labor that are against their interests. Using the lens of sociology of literature and Marxist theory on ideology and capitalism, which is based around the oppositional relations of the class of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, the movie is analyzed through descriptive qualitative methods on the phenomenon where the working class experiences an obstruction from viewing an accurate worldview. False consciousness is an aspect of ideology in which someone is obstructed from viewing the reality of exploitation and domination between workers and owners under capitalist relations. Furthermore, the role of hegemony and the role of intellectuals in the struggle for hegemony also play a part in how false consciousness ultimately manifests in different aspects throughout the movie. The findings shows that confirms the presence of false consciousness, which manifests in three notable classifications: 1) invocation, which is the aspect that concerns the production of the warped worldview that allows the dominant class to gain the consent of the subordinate class; 2) consent, in which the consent of the subordinate class to be ruled by the dominant class is successfully practiced; 3) resistance, where false consciousness fails to manifest, and the capitalist ideology is challenged by proletariat ideology. For further research, it is worth looking into how other social axes other than class can interact with the dynamics of class relations.
