Abstract
Fenomena pekerjaan barista saat ini banyak diminati oleh berbagai kalangan di Indonesia, mulai dari pelajar, mahasiswa, hingga pekerja lepas. Barista itu sendiri merupakan orang yang bertugas untuk membuat minuman kopi hingga menyajikannya pada pengunjung. Pada masa ini, menjadi seorang barista tidaklah sekedar mejeng saja karena harus membutuhkan keahlian tertentu. Para barista merasa bahwa mereka menjadi percaya diri karena melihat pekerjaannya adalah pekerjaan “keren.” Hal ini sesuai dengan konsep cool-jobs atau pekerjaan keren yang diberikan pada pekerja jasa. Selain itu terdapat fenomena bahwa kebanyakan barista yang bekerja adalah seorang mahasiswa yang sedang mengambil pekerjaan secara paruh waktu. Fenomena ini menjadi pertanyaan besar mengapa para mahasiswa lebih memilih untuk menjadi barista. Namun dibalik konsep pekerjaan yang dilihat keren, barista memiliki sisi eksploitasi didalamnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat dibalik pekerjaan keren dari barista terdapat kekurangannya yaitu upahnya yang kecil jauh dibawah UMR terlebih bagi mereka yang paruh waktu. Penelitian ini berasumsi bahwa karena gaji yang didapatkan kecil, mereka seringkali mengalami burnout yang dapat mempengaruhi kesehatannya secara serius. Hal ini juga menjadi pertimbangan terhadap mengapa alasan mereka memilih untuk menjadi barista di balik upah rendah yang didapatkannya. Walaupun gaji yang didapatkan oleh mahasiswa secara paruh waktu jauh dibawah UMR, mereka tetap memilih untuk menjadi barista karena mendapatkan pengalaman yang berarti bagi dirinya. Melalui pengalamannya menjadi seorang barista, para mahasiswa dapat melakukan peningkatan terhadap dirinya sehingga dapat menjadi versi terbaik bagi dirinya. Peningkatan diri yang dilakukan oleh barista bisa mengurangi perasaan atau pengalaman burnout selama mereka bekerja. Penelitian ini juga memiliki tujuan untuk melihat bagaimana pengalaman menjadi seorang barista dibuat sebagai teknologi diri untuk meningkatkan individu menjadi versi terbaik bagi diri sendiri.
English Abstract
The phenomenon of barista work is currently in great demand by various groups in Indonesia, from students, college students, to freelancers. The barista is the person in charge of making coffee drinks and serving them to visitors. Currently, being a barista is not just for show because it requires certain skills. Baristas feel that they are confident because they see their job as "cool." It fits the concept of cool-jobs or a cool job given to a service worker. Besides that, there is a phenomenon that most working baristas are students who are taking jobs on a part-time basis. This phenomenon is a big question why students prefer to become baristas. But behind the concept of a job that looks cool, the barista has an exploitation side in it. This study aims to see that behind the cool jobs of baristas there are drawbacks, namely the small wages are far below the UMR, especially for those who are part time. This research assumes that because the salary they get is small, they often experience burnout which could seriously affect their health. This is also a consideration of why they choose to become a barista behind the low wages they get. Even though the salary earned by students on a part-time basis is far below the UMR, they still choose to become baristas because they gain meaningful experience for themselves. Through his experience as a barista, students can improve themselves so that they can become the best version of themselves. Self-improvement by the barista can diminish feelings or experience burnout while they work. This study also aims to see how the experience of being a barista is created as self-technology to improve individuals to become the best version of themselves.
