English Abstract
The development of the modern film industry, which is increasingly inclusive, now provides opportunities for women to be able to formulate and produce films independently from their point of view. Presenting a variety of feminine points of view, films made by women add a unique variety of tone and genre to the film industry. This is what pique the writer's interest in researching the film made by Jane Campion entitled The Power of The Dog. Through this research, the writer aims to find a picture of the crisis of masculinity represented by characters with American traditional masculinity. This research will employ a qualitative descriptive analysis in conjunction with literature and sociological analysis of masculinity as its critical stances, and other theoretical approaches such as the theory of mise-en-scene and cinematography. Focusing on the figure of Phil Burbank as the main character, the results of this study are to show how the character Phil Burbank represents the character of American traditional masculinity and how Phil Burbank struggles to fight against the masculinity crisis. The conclusion of this study is that the film The Power of The Dog has succeeded in providing a clear picture of how characters with traditional masculine characters experience a masculinity crisis due to the conflicts and challenges presented by feminine characters and new male characters.
