Abstract

Membaca permulaan merupakan sebuah tahapan proses belajar membaca bagi siswa sekolah dasar kelas awal. Namun, ditemukan permasalahan bahwa siswa yang berada di kelas tinggi masih ada beberapa yang berada pada kelas rendah atau dalam tingkat membaca permulaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hasil implementasi metode silabel dan faktor penyebab siswa yang mengalami kesulitan membaca permulaan, khususnya di kelas VII SMP Harapan 2 Genteng. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kasus (case study). Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui asesemen, wawancara, kuesioner dan observasi. Hasil pembelajaran menggunakan metode silabel berbantuan media Snakes and Ladders (ular tangga), dan pengamatan yang dilakukan saat pelaksanaan pembelajaran, ditemukan terdapat dua dari tujuh siswa mengalami kesulitan membaca. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua orang siswa tidak mampu mencapai indikator penilaian membaca permulaan, sedangkan lima orang siswa lainnya mampu mencapai indikator tersebut dengan memperoleh nilai tertinggi 71% dan nilai terendah 28%. Demikian pula, hasil wawancara mendalam diperoleh data bahwa faktor dari kesulitan membaca siswa tersebut adalah daya ingat siswa yang rendah atau lemah dan gejala disleksia (gangguan belajar). Adapun hasil observasi menyatakan bahwa secara fisik partisipan tidak memiliki hambatan dalam pendengaran, penglihatan serta pengucapan. Kesimpulannya bahwa metode silabel efektif digunakan untuk mengetahui permasalahan kesulitan membaca permulaan siswa.

English Abstract

Beginning reading is a stage of the reading learning process for early grade elementary school students. However, it was found that some of the students who were in the high class were in the low class or were still at the beginning reading level. The purpose of this research is to find out the results of the implementation of the syllable method and the factors that cause students who have difficulty in beginning reading, especially in class VII of Harapan 2 Genteng Junior High School. The method used in this research is a case study. Data collection techniques were conducted through assessments, interviews, questionnaires and observations. The results of learning using the syllable method assisted by Snakes and Ladders media, and observations made during the implementation of learning, found that two out of seven students had difficulty reading. The results showed that there were two students who were unable to achieve the indicators of beginning reading assessment, while the other five students were able to achieve these indicators by obtaining the highest score of 71% and the lowest score of 28%. Similarly, the results of in-depth interviews obtained data that the factors of the students' reading difficulties were low or weak memory and symptoms of dyslexia (learning disorder). The observation results stated that physically the participants had no obstacles in hearing, vision and pronunciation. The conclusion is that the syllable method is effectively used to find out the problems of students' beginning reading difficulties.
