Abstract
Penelitian ini akan membahas bagaimana masakan digunakan untuk menyampaikan pesan. Masakan telah dipelajari tentang perannya sebagai simbol sosial yang menyampaikan makna yang signifikan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Data diperoleh melalui serial TV Jepang Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories yang disutradarai oleh Yaro Abe. Dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan pendekatan Wacana dan Genre dengan teori Semiotika Sosial yang dikemukakan oleh Theo Van Leeuwen (2004). Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories menggunakan penggambaran masakan untuk menyampaikan pesan tentang pentingnya penemuan jati diri. Penulis merekomendasikan peneliti selanjutnya untuk menggunakan teori gastrokritik dalam Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories untuk mengungkap lebih jauh tentang representasi masakan sebagai elemen penting dari cerita.
English Abstract
This study will discuss how cuisine is used to convey a message. Cuisine has been studied regarding its role as a social symbol that conveys significant meaning. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data. Data were obtained through the Japanese TV series Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories directed by Yaro Abe. In analyzing the data, the writer used Discourse and Genre approach to Social Semiotics theory proposed by Theo Van Leeuwen (2004). The result of this study proves that Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories used the portrayal of cuisine to convey a message about how important self-discovery is. The writer recommends future researchers use gastrocriticism theory in Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories to reveal more about the representation of cuisine as an essential element of the story.
