Abstract
Kemajuan pembelajaran berbasis gamifikasi dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris telah mempengaruhi penggunaan teknologi untuk pengajaran bahasa dan asesmen. MALL (Mobile-Assisted Language Learning) sebagai salah satu media berbasis teknologi paling umum yang telah banyak diivestigasi oleh peneliti. Kajian tentang MALL perlu digali lebih dalam sebab belum banyak penelitian yang membahas penggunaan MALL dalam kelas luring di SMA. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi persepsi siswa mengenai penggunaan MALL khusunya Mentimeter, Nearpod, dan Quizizz di salah satu SMA di Malang. Penelitian ini menerapkan desain sekuensial explanatory. Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui pengisian kuesioner terkait persepsi siswa terhdapat penggunaan MALL, sedangkan data kualitatif didapatkan dengan melakukan wawancara dengan partisipan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap kegunaan dan kemudahan penggunan MALL dengan rata-rata keseluruhan hasil persentase dari kuisioner sebanyak 78% dan 74% pada masing-masing aspek. Hasil wawancara juga mengindikasikan bahwa MALL menciptakan suasana pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan dan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa tingkat atas. Meskipun penggunaan MALL di kelas bermanfaat bagi siswa tingkat atas, siswa ditingkat menengah dan rendah mengalami beberapa kesulitan yang berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar yang lebih rendah. Hasil keseluruhan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa MALL dapat diterapkan sebagai media pembelajaran dan alat penilaian untuk pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Studi ini secara garis beras dapat berkontribusi sebagai referensi bagi guru untuk mengaplikasikan MALL dalam proses belajar mengajar bahasa Inggris.
English Abstract
The advancement of gamified learning in English language education has affected the use of technology for language instruction and assessment. MALL (Mobile-Assisted Language Learning) is noticed to be the most common technology-based media that has been investigated by many researchers in today’s age. The study of MALL needs more exploration because the research deals with the use MALL for offline classrooms in secondary schools are hardly found. This study is investigating the students’ perceptions on the use of MALL, namely Mentimeter, Nearpod, and Quizizz, in one of the high schools in Malang. This research employed an explanatory sequential design. The quantitative data of the research was gained from an adopted questionnaire about the EFL learners’ views on the use of MALL, while the qualitative one was acquired from an interview with six interviewees. The research results indicate that the participants mostly have positive perceptions of the usefulness and ease of the MALL, 78% and 74%, respectively. The interview result reveals that MALL creates a good learning atmosphere for all participants and improves the high achievers’ scores. Although this gamification for instruction and assessment helps the high achiever enhance, the interview also reveals that low and medium achievers perceived the tools is challenging. As a result, it contributes to their expected improvement. Therefore, the overall development of this study indicates that MALL is applicable as instruction and assessment for English learning. This study can contribute as a reference for the teacher to employ MALL for English teaching and learning.
