Abstract
Tesis ini mengeksplorasi proses adaptasi novel The Witcher ke dalam serial TV. Dengan mengacu pada teori ekranisasi dan adaptasi dari Eneste dan Hutcheon, penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana plot, karakter, dan latar dimodifikasi ke dalam media baru beserta alasan di baliknya dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, memberikan penjelasan dan interpretasi mendalam dari hasil analisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat beberapa penambahan dan perubahan variasi yang terjadi sebagai konsekuensi dari ekranisasi pada plot, karakter, dan latar. Hal ini juga mengungkapkan alasan dan motif di balik perubahan tersebut, yaitu motif ekonomi dan motif pribadi. Kesimpulannya merefleksikan bagaimana adaptasi tersebut menunjukkan pilihan-pilihan kreatif dan tujuan pertunjukan untuk meningkatkan pengalaman menonton. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi pada bidang teori adaptasi, memberikan wawasan tentang dinamika antara bentuk media yang berbeda dan tantangan yang dihadapi oleh para penyadur ketika mengubah karya sastra yang rumit ke layar kaca.
English Abstract
This thesis explores the adaptation process of The Witcher novel into TV series. Drawing on Eneste and Hutcheon’s theories of ecranisation and adaptation, the study examine how the plot, character and setting have been modified to the new medium along with the reason behind it using descriptive qualitative method, providing an in-depth explanation and interpretation of the data analysis results. The examination reveals that there were some addition and variation change that have occurred as a consequence of ecranisation in plot, character, and setting. It also reveals the reason and motive behind the changes namely the economic and personal motives. The conclusion reflects on how the adaptation demonstrate the creative choices and the show's aim to enhance the viewing experience. Overall, this research contributes to the fields of adaptation theory, yielding insights into the dynamics between different media forms and the challenges faced by the adaptors when transforming intricate literary works for the screen.
