Abstract

English Abstract

The development of the creative economy sector of photography and film is marked by the emergence of various kinds of events and communities. Photographic communities in East Java such as KFI, Malang Jepret Jepret, Malang Photo Club, and many more indicate that the film and photography sector has many enthusiasts. The high interest and potential in this sector has led to the need for facilities to enhance the development of the film and photography industries as well as a place to appreciate works. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a Film and Photography Center which accommodates tourism activities in Batu City, as a forum for the photography and film community, as well as boosting the economy in Batu City through commercial activities. The available facilities are able to accommodate tourism, community and commercial activities for visitors. Tourism activities are realized by the presence of a variety of entertainment offered. Meanwhile, community and commercial activities are accommodated through facilities that can be rented out to hone hobbies and shopping areas. The needs of each space must be adjusted to design standards such as area, lighting, ventilation and materials used to provide a sense of comfort for visitors. Analysis of space requirements is carried out through site observations to determine the appropriate design solution. The stages of the design process use the rationalist paradigm method with similar object precedent studies and approach precedent studies. The design results apply the principle of symbolic analogy. The object that becomes the analogy is the camera lens and film roll. The lens and roll of film then undergo a transformation according to space requirements. The results of this design are the design of building facades, spatial planning, mass planning, landscape and interior which apply an analogy approach. An analogy emerges through the plan and shape of the building mass which is circular in shape like a camera lens. Curved elements as an analogy to film rolls also appear in building interiors and landscapes. The Film and Photography Center consists of four building masses with different facilities in each mass. The concept of the building facade on the site is hidden. The facade of this hidden building is analogous to the process of taking pictures using a camera. In this design, the analogy principle has been applied to accommodate community and commercial activities. Community activities are accommodated through communal space and function room facilities. Meanwhile, commercial activities are accommodated through retail, film and photo studios for rent, cinemas and exhibition galleries.
