Abstract
English Abstract
Sand lobster (Panulirus homarus) cultivation activity plays an important role in maintaining the availability of lobsters in nature and to meet the demand for sand lobsters (P. homarus) in the international market. Lobster cultivation can be carried out using several methods such as floating net cages (KJA), fixed net cages (KJT), and bottom water confinement. However, the obstacles in lobster cultivation include low growth and survival rates which are caused by inappropriate density. Inappropriate or excessive stocking densities will narrow the space for movement and competition in obtaining food. Insufficient feed intake can inhibit the growth of sand lobsters (P. homarus) so that the frequency of molting decreases. Molting in lobster itself is a process of changing the skin due to the growth of body weight or length. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of stocking density on the molting frequency of sand lobsters (P. homarus) cultivated in bottom cages. The research was conducted from October to November 2022 at Sangkong Grand Watu Dodol Beach, Banyuwangi, East Java. The method used in this study is an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) and analyzed with the help of Microsoft Excel and the SPSS application. This study consisted of three treatments and three replications. The treatment used was the difference in stocking density with 2 lobsters in A treatment, 3 lobsters in B treatment, and 4 lobsters in C treatment. The data collected were the frequency of molting, length and body weight of the lobsters as well as water quality data during 35 days of maintenance. The results showed that the main parameters such as molting frequency and absolute weight growth of sand lobsters (P. homarus) were significantly affected by differences in stocking densities as evidenced by the statistical analysis results of the ANOVA test. However, stocking density did not affect the growth in length. Based on the results of the BNT test analysis, it was found that treatment A, with a density of 2 lobsters, was the treatment with the best effect and based on the results of the orthogonal polynomial test, 71% difference in stocking density had an effect on the molting frequency of sand lobsters (P. homarus). Absolute weight growth was obtained at 7.83 grams as the highest average in treatment A and by 66% the difference in stocking density had an effect on the absolute weight growth of sand lobsters based on the results of the orthogonal polynomial test.
