Abstract

English Abstract

Busu Subdistrict, located in Jabung District, Malang Regency, is one of the centers for dairy farming in East Java. The incidence of Fasciola sp. can cause damage to the liver so that it can interfere with metabolic processes and reduce the productivity of dairy cows. Liver damage can be seen from the increased levels of ALT and AST in the blood serum. This research is a descriptive observational study that aims to describe the levels of ALT and AST in the blood serum of dairy cows infected with Fasciola sp. Collecting samples using purposive sampling technique then calculating the minimum number of samples using the Slovin formula. Examination of faecal samples was carried out by Parfitt and Banks to determine which cows were infected with Fasciola sp. Two cases of Fasciola sp. infection. found from examination of 100 stool samples. Blood samples from cows that were positive for Fasciola sp. had been taken and examined ALT and AST. The two samples showed a decrease in AST and ALT levels.. The obtained data on ALT and AST levels were then examined using the meta-analysis method. The results of the meta-analysis showed that there were 16 journals discussing similar topics with a sample size of 20 infected cows and 20 healthy cows. The average AST and ALT levels of cows infected with Fasciola sp. from the meta-analysis study, namely 113.67 U/L and 80.01 U/L, while the average of healthy cows was 82.45 U/L and 54.93 U/L. Then the Chi Square statistical test was carried out and the discussion was descriptive. The meta-analysis study showed that infection with Fasciola sp. had no relation to the increase in ALT and AST levels (P> 0.05)
